I am restoring a couple of Beogram 1000 units and one has its original underside cover with the wiring diagram in the envelope so I know it is a 1000V type 5203 series 8. It has a cylindrical motor. The other unit, which is missing the underside cover, has a rectangular motor.
I am assuming the rectangular motor is a later type. Is it an improved motor and can it be fitted as a unit to the type 5203 or is the chassis different?
With regards to the pick-up, the type 5203 came with a damaged but uncovered pick-up which I assume is the original. I have a brand new packaged B&O "Diamond replacement stylus for SP 1 & SP 2 part number 8905410. Is this suitable to use?

About motor type i cannot help you.I had a Beogram 1000 with SP6 when i bought, then i upgrade to SP14, i was satisfy with that pick-up.regards

The important thing is you have right stylus for the cartridge I have often seen one of the following (sp14,sp10,sp12) on the older metal cartridge this is wrong the collar stops the stylus from going on properly as the older sp6-7 sp8-9 are shorter.
Also, if you swap cartridges you will have to rebalance the arm as the older metal cartridge is heavier than the newer plastic encased one.
And its worth noting there are some very poor-quality aftermarket sp6-7 sp8-9 around there are also some that are quite good though, the bad ones do not have a moving iron cross at all instead try and fit a moving magnet system to it the effect is rather dismal but they seemed to make a lot of them, if you want to be sure not get one of these poor quality imitations take look at it from the inside.
Attached is an image a customer sent me a while ago of one of the poor-quality ones, this one is a gold one but there are also plenty of silver ones around.

Beogram 1000 was produced with several different motors, but I am almost sure, that the chassis was unchanged with regards to the motor mounts.
