OK, before i leave this TV out for the bin men, one last attempt....

So i have what i believe is a fully functioning BeoVision 7 Mk 1 with built in DVD player and HD upgrade. I want to use it solely for viewing content via an Amazon Firestick.

My set up is as follows: Firestick inserted directly into a HDMI > DVI convertor. 24 Pin DVI cable out of this convertor into the DVI port on the TV. The convertor also has an audio out which i have liked to the L/R inputs on the TV. Connections wise i have AV4 linked to PC and DVI. No joy whatsoever, blank screen.

As a test to make sure all the above connections and cables are working I have tried replacing the Firestick with a HDMI cable linked to a YouView freeview box (set to 720p). I get sound (great sound!!) but no picture when I do this....so close!!! Any ideas where i am going wrong?

If the two hdmi sources that you have tried (firestick and freeview) have outputs that have High Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (hdcp), then you will not get a picture unless your HDMI>DVI converter also strips the hdcp from the digital video signal.

Perhaps you can find a device with an hdmi output that does not have hdcp - a laptop maybe?

Or maybe go into your Freeview box settings and turn off the hdcp - if that is possible.

(If you have (eg) a PS4, you can turn of hdcp in its menu.)

Or find a HDMI>DVI converter that strips the hdcp, like mine: https://www.amazon.co.uk/aoeyoo%C2%AE-Analog-Converter-Digital-Extractor-White/dp/B00NAJ4UM2/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1551441926&sr=8-17&keywords=HDMI+to+HDMI+%2B+Analog+Audio+Converter

EDIT:  Sorry I didn't read your post properly!  If your BV7 does have the HD upgrade, then hdcp should not be a problem!!!  Perhaps it's worth exploring my solutions anyway, in case the HD upgrade is not fully functional.

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried a laptop, exactly the same result, sound but no picture.

According to the serial number it is not hd ready....

Are you sure about the hd upgrade?

How about Hertz settings? Maybe you need either 50 OR 60 Hz. Cannot remember....

I have a receipt for 'Fitting Internal HD Scaler Kit & Updated System Software' from Nov 2010. I am hoping this confirms it?

I guess so.

Did you try to use VMEM/VTAPE instead of PC?

I have set Firestick resolution to 720 and tried both 50 and 60Htz.

Please post name of converter you use. Did you try the converter with another TV?

The color depth maybe another issue, set to high/highest may not work with Beovision. Laat chance....

Color depth needs to be changed on fire tv stick (if possible).

In the reviews it states

It appears to upscale to 1080p, I purchased it for a 720p TV with DVI input and it wouldn't work/wouldn't display due to upscaling

You can test if it converts if you have a TV set that Displays the Input Format.

For example we use a Panasonic TV as Display for the Beosystem 4.

It Shows 1.080 p / 60 hz if a source of that kind is chosen.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who offered up advice, I bought the recommended HDMI convertor and it worked straight away!! The screen occasionally and very briefly fades to black but apart from that I am really pleased with it.

Next challenge is to find a close fitting fixed wall bracket....they seem to be more expensive than the TV they support!! Is there any alternative to the official one?
