I need help, I have just got a refurbished Beosound 3 and I am puzzled. It works fine on Radio and on the MP3 player. I have just received it but when I connect the mains adapter, the standby light does not light. When turning on the display only shows for a few seconds and then goes blank. Looking at the user manual it behaves as if it is on the internal battery only. I have checked the mains adapter and it is delivering slightly more than 15 volts at the connector.
The symptoms are the same as older portables with a faulty changeover switch operated by inserting the external supply connector. Looking at the service manual does not show such a switch. I don't think the connector is faulty so is there something equally simple or is it more serious?

The Problem is now solved. I hate to admit it, but I had not properly settled the plug in the socket. I have no excuse but I suppose my experience with the earlier set weakened my confidence. Fat Thumb syndrome.
No problem. Quite understandable.
The day I bought ours at a local B&O store, a woman came in quite upset for the same reason. I thought " wait a minute," and yielded the floor to the other customer.
After listening calmly and patiently to her frustrating experience, the wise sales representative took it into the back area with a knowledgeable wink to me.
He returned later showing that yes, her Beosound 3 was indeed able to charge properly. He then pointed out ( ever so gently ) that the charge line worked much better when plugged into the charge socket in the back, rather than the earpiece socket on the side.
She was very happy and appeared satisfied when she left. Thus reassured, I resumed and concluded my purchase.
