I posted a while back that I was considering acquiring a music server, which would make playback of files (mainly AIFF, some FLAC or ALAC or MP3) through my BeoLab 90s easier (and hopefully sound better). (At present, the files are sent to my BeoSystem 3 and then to the speakers.) In the meantime, I've been experimenting with connecting my MacBook directly to the speakers using a USB C to USB B cable. I was under the impression that if I then launched iTunes and played some music, this would come out of the BL90s. However, I've been getting only silence, though the files are definitely playing. Have I missed something here?
In System Preferences (under the Apple menu), select the Sound pane - can you see something related to the BL90’s in the Output tab?

There is a tv - and there is a BV
I think you've solved it — I need to choose the BeoLab 90s and not the internal speakers.
Thank you!
You’re welcome.....and how does it sound?
I'm currently watching TV, so I'll try it out properly tomorrow. Will be interesting to contrast playing a CD and playing a lossless file from that CD via the BeoSystem 3 and directly from my laptop. I'll let you know!
So far, I've only tried it with one track (carefully selected for its recording quality). Whilst there were perhaps very minor differences, I certainly didn't notice any major improvements over playing the CD on my 5500. In fact, I may very slightly have preferred the presentation of the CD player. However, I will be trying it out on other tracks in the coming weeks. Thanks again for your help!
