Hi
I have an old Beolab 3500 with a Powerlink connection. Is it possible to use the 3500 with a non B&O product if I have a PL to Chinch cable? Or does it only work with Beolink?
thanks in advance
We had near the same discussion in the german forum http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/3457.aspx
short answer: NO! The Beolab 3500 works only in the B&O network. If you are searching through the forum, you'll find somewhere a link to a company which modifies the Beolab 3500 for using as Powerlinkspeaker. But the clock will not work.
Depends on where you are living, but at the moment there are several cheap Beosound Ouverture around. The Beosound act's as Master in the B&O network
You can use a Beolink Converter as an ML driver (version 1166), and you can plug your iPod or whatever into that. I used to have that setup with my Beolab 2000 earlier.

Hi Johan
What source to you select on the Beo4 to make this work?
Thanks
StUrrock: Hi Johan What source to you select on the Beo4 to make this work? Thanks
I believe it was TV, but I'm not sure. Perhaps it can be changed somehow, I was too lazy to find out.
Thanks for the quick answer.
I would like to connect my Beolab 3500 with my TV. I do not want to use it as link speaker, just as an active speaker. Therefore, the clock does not have to work.
Consequently, it is cheaper to buy a used Beolab speaker and sell the 3500?
IMHO this makes more sense. For the Beolab 3500 you need a remote to turn it on/off, for Beolab speakers not...
Hi everyone,
Sorry for the late reply, but I'm pleased to confirm that it is now possible to connect an iPod, iPhone, non-B&O TV or any device with a headphone socket directly to a Beolab 3500 mk.2 (Type numbers 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1605, 1607, 1608 from serial no. 19343452) by selecting test mode 4 from a B&O remote.

Steve at Sounds Heavenly: Hi everyone, Sorry for the late reply, but I'm pleased to confirm that it is now possible to connect an iPod, iPhone, non-B&O TV or any device with a headphone socket directly to a Beolab 3500 mk.2 (Type numbers 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1605, 1607, 1608 from serial no. 19343452) by selecting test mode 4 from a B&O remote. This opens the Powerlink port and allows any device (eg. non-B&O TV, iPod, Beosound, etc) to play through the 3500 with this cable:- http://soundsheavenly.com/airport-express/155-ipodtvairport-express-to-beolab-3500-mk2-cable.html A B&O remote (either Beo4 or Beolink 1000) is needed to set the speaker to Powerlink mode each time it is switched on (by pressing MENU MENU 0 4 GO on a Beo4 or MENU MENU 0 4 PLAY on a Beolink 1000) and volume control is then managed from the connected device (eg. TV, iPod, etc). To turn off the speaker, press the “Power Off” button on the remote as usual. This setup works with all mk.2 Beolab 3500s, ie. Type numbers 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1605, 1607, 1608 from serial no. 19343452. I'm still working on a solution for Beolab 3500 mk.1 and LCS9000, expect an update soon! Kind regards, Steve.
It would be quite easy for someone to build that key sequence into a macro on the Beo5/6 so that everything could be accomplished with the press of just one button.
Good idea beojeff,
Just a quick update to confirm that I can now get ANY Beolab 3500 or LCS9000 speaker working with ANY audio source via a simple cable connection. You can see full details at the link in my post above, or feel free to ask if you have any questions.
Kind regards, Steve.
