I am having trouble using the radio on my BeoSound 2000.

Pressing TUNE then higher or lower does little in that there is no sound and the LED’s show the radio is scanning but finds no stations in either direction.

Pressing MODE gets the radio to function and I can scan to available stations with sound, however pressing STORE, selecting a number for the stored station, and then pressing STORE again saves the station, but no sound.

I saved 4 stations and pressing radio twice confirms the correct number (95.1FM) but there is no sound. The BeoSound will go to each selected station, but without any sound.

Clearly I am doing something wrong. What?

Guys, one of 3 things is the source of this problem.

  1. The most likely is I have missed a step, or otherwise made a mistake.
  2. The BeoSound 2000 is malfunctioning and in need of repair.
  3. The original owner selected some sort of mute function that I am unaware of.

I downloaded the User’s Guide and followed the instructions to the letter. This BeoSound 2000 IS saving selected stations, but there is no sound. Further, unless “tricked” by using the MODE button, this unit does not pick up a single FM station in the scan mode.

Something is very wrong here.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Jeff

Well I found the “solution” if not the issue.

If I follow the instructions in the manual to scan to the desired station and save it, assign a number, and save again, it saves the station but there is no sound.

HOWEVER if I use the “trick” to use the mode button and then enter the station’s numeric call number, save that, then assign a number and save that, it works.

I surmise that I wasn’t doing something wrong, that in fact there is something wrong with this BeoSound 2000, but what the heck, if it works, it works.

The FM sound reproduction is AMAZING far and away better than any of my other Beomasters.

Now if I could ever get the cassette recorder to work, I’d have a winner. It works great so long as the unit is disassembled, but put it back together and it plays for a second in one direction, then the other and stops.

I have given up on the cassette as I have sent hours on it, but at least the CD and radio now function beautifully.

Glad to hear you got it working Jeff, and without any help, I couldn´t help you as I dont know the 2200.

I have now recorded nearly all my 45s vinyl to cassette tapes, missing some 40-50 pcs. but ran out of tapes, now 8, 60 min. and 5, 90 min. makes a totally different listening adventure, I recorded all of them in no particular order. All the tapes are marked 45 vinyl and numbered 1 to13Laughing

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

Hi Søren,

I enjoy cassette tapes too as they can serve as memories as well as providing music. I recorded countless tapes in the eighties which reflected MY musical interest of the time, which makes these tapes very personal.

I have a collection of favorites that included music recorded off the radio and while I did my best (at the time) to avoid any DJ’s vocals, now and then I slipped up and have, “And now another twin-spin on WLCY 138.” WLCY was the youth orientated station in a sea of stations that favored Guy Lombardo and Lawrence Welk.

WLCY AM/FM are now long gone, but with my tapes, the memory goes on.

In addition I borrowed a huge collection of Christmas records from a friend and put them on tapes, which I use for my Christmas music for the season.

Vinyl rocks, but cassette tapes have their place too. Yes - thumbs up

Jeff

P.S. Thanks for the offer of help, the mere fact that you thought about it means a lot to me. Smile

So, You've made a 'baker's dozen'(13)...Laughing (if you know the old english phrase)

Nice to hear that there's still people listening to cassette tapes. Big Smile
I've never understood those people who threw out, or sold all their records (and/or tapes) when the CD came up.
And those who throw out all their CD's because it's all going digital...

IMO it doesn't have to be either/or -but both/and. (but try to tell that to the youngsters...) Wink
Yes - I also have music on my PC and on my smartphone. And I can stream music through my Beosystems.
But there IS something special about putting a record on the turntable -or a tape in the Beocord -or a CD in the Beocenter/Beosound.
It would be a bit sad just to use those lovely older Beosystems as just a staging between the PC/mac/phone (or whatever) and the speakers...

-and @ piaf:

There's definitely something wrong with your BS 2000's tuner section - Nice to hear that you found a solution. Yes - thumbs up
I once had one with the same issues. I sold mine back then. But I later regretted -and have recently bought me another one, fully functional Lets have a Party !!!
I hope that somebody here on Beoworld can help you with the BeoSound cassette-issue.

Hi Steffen,

Yes I know there is something wrong with my BeoSound 2000. With the User’s Guide in hand, following the directions to the letter it quickly became apparent that my problem was not a user’s issue, but that of the 2000.

Select radio and all you get is silence. Try scanning in either direction and no stations found, ever.

It was a matter of dumb luck that I discovered that selecting MODE caused the radio to come alive, at least with audible static. Once there was volume the scanning feature also worked and the tuner found station after station.

Yet still, following the directions to scan to the station you want and then save it, assign a number for it, and then save again was worthless, as the saved station again had no volume.

I mentioned most of this above, but just in cased I missed a point, I am being redundant.

When I decided to enter the station’s frequency manually like magic, everything worked. Done this way the saved stations, all ten of them have volume and rather spectacular sound.

Since you experienced the same sort of problem, at least I know I am not alone.

I spent a couple of days trying fruitlessly to program the radio section thinking I was just simply too stupid and was doing something wrong. Hey, at least I now know it wasn’t me….. at least this time.

The cassette issue is something else and I sure hope that someone will help me with this one. I have taken this 2000 apart several times trying to remedy this irritating situation. With the 2000 open, the cassette player works flawlessly, in every respect.

However when I close the unit up, the cassette player will only play in one direction for a second or two, reverse and do the same and stop. At one point the cassette would function properly if the 2000 was leaning at a 45° angle, but eventually that “trick” stopped working.

I know it is an alignment issue, but I don’t know what is wrong as nothing appears to interfere with the cassette.
