hi - my Beogram 4000 finally arrived. Was v well packaged but the tonearm is limp and the on off button is loose. Everything else seems to work. I am not going to muck around with it. I got it relatively cheaply so can afford to put some money into it. There is a local B&O repair shop in Dublin so will bring it there. They aren't cheap but have a good reputation.
My main issue is that the seller had professed the machine to be working well claiming it had been checked out. I am wondering if the damage was done in transit (unlikely as it was really well packaged - but I am prepared to be corrected). The machine does not appear to have been used in twenty years so am hoping it is a dried lube issue.
The tone arm has probably took a jolt in transit knocking the knife edge out of the vee block allowing it to drop down, if so ite nothing to worry about.
Craig,
Thanks for the message it is very reassuring. Bringing it in about an hour to my B&O repair centre. Apparently they are excellent. No harm in getting it serviced anyhow.
