There's plenty of threads on P45 woofers, but I seem to have run into an issue with a tweeter... I noticed one of my P45's sounds a bit weaker. Measured with a tablet app it plays 1-2 db lower on average. In addition there seems to be a hint of distortion in the high frequencies, the sound a bit less crisp and a slight buzzing when playing trumpets (I'm testing this with some 60ies hard bop), so I think it is the tweeter.

I started noticing this since I got a better phono preamp and one of the speakers disappoints (I did swap them to check if it indeed the speaker and not the amp). Did anyone run into similar issues? Are the tweeters in the P45 known to run into this kind of problem, do they wear out?

Check coil, check crossovers, evt. swap tweeters to test

Hi Søren, this is an older thread but I was wondering if you could give some pointers for swapping the tweeters? I found another pair that I would like to exchange for the ones I currently have in my P45.

The new pair is Seas H-086, measured 3.9 resistance with a multimeter and seems to have "4 Ohms" stamp so I think it is the exact model used in the P45. Pics below. They look just like your picture, the faceplate is flat without the indentations like the ones currently installed do.

In any case, although soldering them in doesn't seem like a big job I am wondering if there is any possibility of damaging these tweeters when soldering? I'm not very experienced with it myself so if there are any suggestions you'd have what to look for I'd really appreciate them!

That looks like the correct tweeter for P45 (and M70). My tweeters were not soldered. Just slipped the mechanical connectors off, then slipped back on.

Those tweeter leads are fragile, though. There is a thread somewhere where I fixed one and sent it to Soren.

Good luck.

Solder on, clean and presolder tips and wire and then solder wire to tips
