I picked up a Beogram 4002 cheaply with the admitted defect that it made a rubbing noise. It doesn't. What it does do, however, is move the tonearm while lowering the needle and continues to do while playing. Any ideas on how to fix this. Also the bulb for the fine speed adjustment is broken, certainly the panel is dark and I can't see anything.

The bulb for the fine speed indication and illumination will be an easy fix, get a gold membership and download the service manual and look up the control panel removal details, there are also lots of threads in the forums detailing how to replace these, Dillen on this site can supply new lamps. The tracking motor which is responsible for moving the tone arm which is continuously driving the arm inwards will be a bit more complicated....or not depending on the fault. The first thing to check is that the tone arm itself is nice and free...….with the unit switched off the tone arm rests in place held up by a knife edge sitting in a vee block support, you should be able to move the arm left and right by around 3mm in each direction and the arm should move back to the centre position freely, if not then that's your problem and you will need to take the tone arm mechanism apart and lubricate it.....this is not a massively complicated task, see beolovers videos on youtube where he describes in detail how to do this.

Good luck...Craig

much appreciated Craig - the unit appears otherwise in great condition just not used in a while I presume.
