If you were designing the next audio system what would look like and what features would it have? I would go Top Trumps and build something like this...,

Moving glass/aluminium and wood.

Removable tablet like Moment but light years better in design and feel.

Matt and papelike touch screen and not the shiny glass touchscreen thereby evading fingerprints.

There is no substitute for material moving - fancy software doesn’t cut it.

Hefty in weight.

Large (for presence, not a white plastic box)

Combination of physical buttons and touch screen.

Physical volume control - rotary like Bc2 or the large volume wheel on Bs5.

Run on Roon Core with a B&O skin.

Toslink coax, Toslink optical, USB,

Analogue in, HDMI and Ethernet NAS connectivity.

Robust Network connectivity.

Robust Bluetooth connectivity.

Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer, Primephonic, Apple, Spotify and upgradeable to any future steaming service.

Audio out to sound bar, Beolab, RCA and AES our for those without B&zombie speakers.

YouTube compatibility so it could play music off YouTube with a small window to locate the music video of choice.

Airplay to stream music off Apple device.

SSD storage allowing you to buy music and store, as well as backup to external later.

USB/ headphone compatibility to allow music off a mobile phone output.

Evolution of Pattern Play.

FPGA allowing software and audio reconfiguration in the future.

A discrete clock (like the BS9000 has) with timer function.

Mood lighting of the type found on the BC3200 or BS9000 but adjustable.

Multiroom.

Act as a streaming source to other non-B&O devices.

Present: BL90, Core, BL6000, CD7000, Beogram 7000, Essence Remote.

Past: BL1, BL2, BL8000, BS9000, BL5, BC2, BS5, BV5, BV4-50, Beosystem 3, BL3, DVD1, Beoremote 4, Moment.

Top Trumps i said so partly not serious.

This is forum so we can be less than serious and let our dreams run wild.

Millenissen, do you have any suggestions, ideas, or even serious wishes for a future system?

Given that you have a feline avatar, can you not be playful?

The killer system I would like to see is one of very simple boxes. BeoMaster boxes. Pressed cases, with nothing fancy like whole chassis milled from Aluminum ingots, no fancy movements or things that distract from the musical pleasure or consume expense other than where it counts. Hidden away or at the very extreme….a brushed aluminum/smoked glass facia for those units kept in the open.

A digital Streamer/Master. All the normal digital to digital connections plus an Ethernet/direct digital Powerlink. Beovision control is sojourned to the Master as not to mess-up sound quality. All digital formats are supported and issued at a sample rate/bitrate compatible with the connecting loudspeaker. The streamer can also act as a “Pre-Amp” for a Music Server, connecting equipment like DVD/Bluray disc players, other digital connections (HDMI etc..) The Streamer will know if to direct signals to the Beomaster or to a Beovision as required.

Again, galvanically isolated in terms of connections and an ultra-low corrected and isolated power source. Drive via a BeoApp on steroids.

Think Auralic Aries G2 with B&O direct compatibility

A box containing an ultra-low noise PC/Music Server. It harvests stored music kept on its harddrive and from sources such as Roon or if you do want Roon, directly from Tidal, Qobus, Hi-Res and other streaming services. Facilitates direct download/storage. It will also support direct ripping via USB connections. Galvanic isolation on Ethernet connections. Optimised SSD/HDD based on noise reduction.

Think Melco N1ZH Music Server/Hard drive with B&O direct compatibility

As needs a high quality digital clock (not to wake you up around the house – that is useless). But one that effectively eliminates all jitter. This external clock would commander the internal clock in the Master by several magnitudes. Possibly add-in a very high quality up-sampler/down-sampler to this package as well.

Think Auralic Leo GX with B&O direct compatibility

All three units work together, The Master is the key ingredient and can work alone. The Master can work with a NAS, plugged-In Harddrive or the Media Server.  The external clock/sampler takes the Streamer to ultra-high-end digital signal quality. Differentiation is in progressive digital signal quality.

The Master is a high-end Moment without the useless frills, the other two are for those who want the best for their BL50/90s and are prepared to pay for it.

If wishing made it so!

I'd love it if B&O stuff was Roon compliant, even just as Roon endpoints, as opposed to being Roon core's.

Listening to music using the B&O app isn't a great experience - its fine, but little more.

But given the current app, and glacial pace of development on it over the last 2 years, there is zero hope on that front.....happy to use Roon on an iPad for the full Roon experience.

But none of this is going to happen.

And in a way, one could just get one of the products (or similar ) you mention above, connect to Beolabs and use Roon on an iPad.
