It's not a surprise. I had my BeoSound 4 a long time ago, in the end became a 'streaming tool' to my BL3s via an AirPlay device and effectively a radio. And even then it was easier to find a station on the computer or iPad and stream, rather than go to the device itself and pick one.
We have to remember the traditional customer base is dying fast. People don't need/want a player for their audio OR their old one doesn't need to be replaced. How many people here still have a BeoSound 4 or 9000? I bet a fair few. So, take in to account the reduction in future potential customers and existing customers keeping what they already have and it's a sharply declining future market.
The question is better served as: what is B&O going to to produce in the future to successfully serve their retailers? Your average store on an average high street won't sell many BL90s, 50s or Harmony, so they need more mid-range products.
Good points Moxxey. I have a BS9000, which I truly love, what a work of functional art! But, last time I used the CD player was a couple of months ago when I demonstrated it to a guest. I use it to connect my Auralic Aries Mini to my BL9s, with volume and tone controls and a nice remote, Beo4.
Having come of age, audio wise, during the glorious 70's when hifi was big business and everyone had a system, and every brand made everything, from turntables to speakers, this is hard to enjoy watching though. I still wonder if a proper audio setup would sell, if it had something good to offer.
Then again, if I had it to do over I'd get the Auralic integrated amp and a pair of speakers.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.

Now where did I put my pipe and slippers?

Maybe we should see the coming, new remote control as the front end of these ‘small plastic streaming boxes hidden away‘.
And we must learn to see that audio systems have merged into something different than in the golden days of ‘visible media’..

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Yeah, I get it.
But I think the world has moved on to be frank. Audiophile specs are getting more and more tighter with some very inexpensive gear performing very near to the most expensive top-end products.
What B&O cannot do is – like the new BV Harmony, is spend 90% of the R&D budget and product value on fancy showy mechanisms at the cost of the sound output.
Where B&O could take a very good step forward is to produce cupboard electronics with perfect integration; i.e. with my BL90s and 3rd party (audiophile) gear, it is shocking how poorly all these separates communicate/integrate (or not) with each other and their subsequent ease of use.
Hidden boxes (plastic or metal), killer control and integration, the best possible sound technology and possibly a connection route for the Never B&O’ers to consider. That is all they need to be successful in my opinion (or at least they are attempting to put themselves on the same playing field)
Sliding glass doors and Angel-wings went out with the mink coat as something most people don’t want or really need or are prepared to pay for. Move-on I think.
