I currently have a Beovision 7-55 with Beolab 7-4, 20s and 12-3s. I have been considering either a pair of Beolab 50s, or a new Eclipse. As a practical matter, a new Eclipse makes much more sense due to being much less expensive and it would be replacing the oldest technology in the system. It seems to me that if I get Beolab 50s to replace the 20s, I would get a huge improvement in the front speakers. However, as the Beovision 7 is old technology and does not have the Beolab 50s in it's setup menu I might not get the full benefit of them. If I get the Eclipse, perhaps the newer sound processing technology would give me improvement in the overall sound including the sound center replacing the 7-4? Any opinions on the relative improvement in sound between the two options? Thanks!

As you may be aware, Im running an Eclipse 65 with the BL90s either side.

As with the Avant 55, the Eclipse has excellent sound processing for a Beovision. Far better than the BV7-55 (which I also had and thought it was good but also a large lump of a TV).

Cant dispute the Eclipse as an excellent TV, though the OS control system leaves me wanting. I preferred the form-factor of the Avant 55 (especially hanging on the wall, and the original B&O OS)

I would personally only look to upgrade the Beolabs if to improve my music listening pleasure. Yes, the BL50's will thrash the BL9s and BL7-4s all over town but the existing setup will work well in Video. Certainly big coin for an improved video experience.

For me, I prefer to kill all sound from the Eclipse soundbar in all modes as it definately distracts from the sound of the BL90 phantom image and dont see the BL50s being any different in that sense....so I guess it is what cash you are willing to throw at it, what you really want to improve (music, video or latest tech?)

The speaker choise option on the beovision is only for base management. B&O has a chart to explain that.

Beovision 7-55 MK1 red, Beolab 10 red. Beolab 50, all black. Beolab 17 broken ice. Beolab transmitter. Apple tv4 and apple express 2.

Not just that.

There are also informations on the time a given speaker needs for processing the siund....compared to others.

This means: more or less delay.

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Yes, lab 5, 12 and above. But I was thinking of the beolab 9.

It’s is a real pain to set it up properly. Specialy when blending new and old stuff. But when it’s done nothing can compare to it.

There is a detailed chart I was given years ago by B and O. It lists the settings for various newer speakers that are not included in the setup menu of older Beovisions. It identifies which older speaker to select in the menu, and then the distance correction to account for different processing/delay times between the newer speaker that is being used and the older speaker being selected in the menu.
