Hi all B&O vintage fans,
I found 4 used bass drivers on Internet for sale. They are coming from one pair of P45.
I need 2 drivers for my P50 (and I would take all 4) but I am not sure if these from P45 are the same as these in P50? According to this site it should be the same bass unit.
The guy sent me also few pics of them:

What is your opinion?
I think Martin is a specialist on this field...
They are identical.Have the seller glue the magnets if he is going to ship them to you.Nice find BTW.
Martin
Hi Martin,
thx for a tip.
Btw, what does it mean exactly to glue them? I read about it already here but what does it mean exactly, is it documented here in any thread how to do it? What should I tell him exactly?
BR
Tell him to place a bead of strong glue, Araldite or similar, at the two ridges all around the magnet. The magnet has most likely lost adhesion to the speakers metal basket and will shift and/or detach in transport. In most cases, it will relocate and lock the coil solid, in rare cases it will be knocked clean off.In both cases a repair is quite difficult.Occasionally, a simple rearranging of them, moving about the house etc. is enough so I recommendall owners of Beovox S45 (6302 and 6312), P45 and P50 to glue the magnets, better sooner than later.
Thanks a lot, Martin!
I will do that.
Best regards
Thanks a lot for the Picture, Martin
I have just bought a set of those old S 45's. They are working fine -but I didn't really dare to play loud because I have read about those magnet issues. I have read several times about glueing the magnets.- and I know that there is a thread about how to do it. But i haven't had time (or patience) to search for it - and I was just about to post a question about a link to it (or a Picture) -and then came this!
That's what I like about Beoworld So -this weekend, I'm gonna glue some magnets, and then...
Finally I found some time for few "never-have-time-for" low-priority issues from my to-do list... One of those "projects" could be concerned to this thread, originally started by me.
Few weeks ago I got a pair of Beovox P45 with 2 (of 4) bad drivers. In my cabinet I found those forgotten 4 (in my first post mentioned) spare drivers for Beovox P45/50. All 4 bass drivers were working but they should once also be re-glued, as this was still not made and highly recommended by Martin (and other members here).
Yesterday afternoon my wife went with the kids to the swimming pool. I came to home from work and realized that I have maybe 1 or 1,5 hours free for me. I don't have own workbench in our flat. Every "project" I start, I have to make on our dining table. That said, everything I start, I have to finish and clean up all my tracks before the hungry mouths are back ;-)
Hmmm, it could be tight. I switched ON my fresh restored Beomaster 6000, found some laud music and decided to try: I disassembled Beovox P45 pair and took out all 4 bass drivers. I glued 2 which were OK and the 4 spares. All 6 were working good but you can never know, how long the old glue will hold.
I glued the drivers using Martin's description and picture he posted here.
The family came home and the dining table was clean.
But stepping into our flat, my wife asked me immediately: What is smelling so strange here???
And one minute latter the kids was asking: Where are our Lego cubes???
But I was satisfied because I finished at least one issue and hacked this point from the my list...
Good work Theomaster, excellent job! Sound good?
Ben
Hi Ben,
thanks.
Of course there is no difference in sound, before and after re-glueing, they sound very good.
But now I can sleep well, no fear that the magnets will discharge their baskets soon.
Than I had one more issue with one of the wooden cover for the P's. It was broken but in the mean time I solved this too.
Speakers are connected to BM6000 and they are playing very well as front speakers together with C-30 as rear. Actually I am very pleased with the sound!
Back from vacation Ben?
Best Regards,
Igor
Great work, I bet they do sound really good actually.
I am back from holiday thanks Igor, lovely week exploring Stockholm!
Back to reality now, currently attempting to sort a few old Beolits!
Hope you are well,
Hi all,It's my first time here in this forum.
I am seeking one bass unit for the Beovox P45 speakers - bought a pair and they sounded ok - just forgot to shift the balance, and when relistening back home one of the bass units was stuck (gone).Thank you in advance if any one has an extra, I can buy. Situated in Denmark.
Hi ;-)
Just took apart a driver from a 45-2, that had shifted. Thinking that if I could not fix it, at least I would gain a little knowledge ;-)
I noticed, that the little center metal piece (that you se after removing dust cap) had detatced as well as the magnet itself. Is this usual?
In regard to preventive gluing of other (still working) drivers, what are the chances, that the center part will detach on its own AFTER I have super glued the magnet?
Has anybody had that happen?
Thanks,Jesper...
I have managed to repair a few of these in the past, never seen one with the core displaced as well as the magnet...though there is no reason it couldn't happen with a hard enough impact, and your correct....gluing the outer magnet in place wont prevent the core dislodging, however the outer magnet has to move to do this so gluing it in place makes it unlikely that the core can move on its own.
Craig
I sure hope, that the cores will remain in place.
I was just very surpriced to see/feel exactly how easy it was to take apart - the glue had was totally... well... unglued? I could literally just take it apart with my fingers.
And with Martin telling stories about how just moving the speaker, in some cases could shift the magnet, I just got extremely worried
Jesper...
