Sheffield store closing

I was very sad to hear that my local dealer in Sheffield is closing in a couple of weeks time. Nick has looked after me for the last 15 years or so and has been an outstanding ambassador for B&O. His relationship with B&O goes back 40 years.

Nick is retiring and I wish him every success and happiness for the future. Also his team, Ed and James, who have been a pleasure to deal with.

I popped into the store yesterday and it’s fair to say some people have got some real bargains on ex-demo and other stock!

The store is 5 minutes walk from my house (4 if I walk quickly) and this has been responsible for a fair number of impulse purchases over the years. It will come as quite a culture shock not to have the store on my doorstep to check out new releases or just pop in for a chat.

My nearest dealers will now be Derby, Manchester or Lincoln which are all 40-50 miles away. Not the end of the world but will require a conscious effort. And I’m aware that to our former colonial friends this is as good as being on the same block.

Sad to hear, but after 40 years the man deserves his rest let’s hope someone else takes over, or if you chose Manchester as your next primary dealer then say hi to John for me! The are one of the best world wide.

Well after 40 years with the brand, it seems like good timing to retire, the lease on the store has expired and I don’t wish to commit to a new 5-7 year lease with the uncertainties within the brand. I feel sure that I won’t be the last one this year to hang up my B&O boots, but for those dealers that are fighting on, you have my sincere best wishes for the future.

If anyone is looking for a cost price plus VAT, Bluetooth speaker, ear or headphones, a new Bronze A9, or even an ex-display Loewe Bild 7.65 on Motor floor stand for silly money, then drop me a line. Maybe shouldn’t mention Loewe on this site, but most of us more savvy dealers sell them😀

I have seen many changes over the years, but the current company position isn’t one that I see as being sustainable for more than a couple of years or so, I hope I am wrong, but it certainly feels the right time to be leaving the business. I’m sure there will be a backward glance and a tear in the eye as I lock up for the last time...but the store will be empty, no creditors, no disgruntled clients, no one owed a penny, and my mobile number will be open to all clients for a minimum 12 months.  I can walk away with my head held high, and dust off my golf clubs and try to slow down a bit...

All done, shop empty, everything sold - unbelievable...!?

Walked away last Friday, and after a weekend decompressing the rebirth has begun. Well I say that, spent the morning on a site survey for 2 Eclipse as a freelance salesman!

I now have a little more time to see what is going on here.

Thank you to all of my customers, you really are the nicest bunch of people that have kept me from having a proper job for many years, so many cards and lovely comments, I feel blessed to have known you all.
