Hi!

When I read the sound quality discussions between different types of tvs I assumed the tv was used alone and I assumed that with different types of loudspeakers conected in a 5.1 config will it be almost the same.

WRONG! I have had an initial setup of Samsung plasma conected to a beosystem 3 + 2BL 8000 + 2BL 6000 and 2BL 4000 ( as center).

Now I moved to a bv 10-46 conected to BL 8000's and BL 6000's and I found the center speaker (tv) very bad. Bono's voice in U2 Rose Bowl Concert is incredible bad in a 5.1 config, better in a speaker 2 ( BL8000 only) and even better in speaker 4 ( BL 8000 + BL 6000).

I regret the full sound of my previous config and I am wondering what should I do now to improve the quality of center channel. I tried to play with all the settings in tv setup and even in service setup but without any result.

Can you please help me ( beside returning to my previous setup or changing to a 12-65/4-50 + BS3 :))!

Dear liviu_o,

since one week I`m the owner of a BV10-46. My setup is: BV10-46 with BL9 front, BL4000 and BS4 via Masterlink. I`m using the BV10-46 with a TechniSat cable receiver, so I do not need the (bad) intern DVB-HD tuner. After I have had finished my setup, I asked myselb if something with the dolbydigial-modul was wrong, because there was such a big difference using the bitstream signal (let the DD-modul of the BeoVision do the work for 5.1 DD) and PCM (let the TechniSat do the word). Bitstream = 5.1 DD, PCM = stereo.

My setup is 50% volume of the BL9 (speaker setup), base volume level of BV10 is appr. 75% (speaker setup). Because the center of the BV10-46 is very weak in a 5.1 setup, you have the control the front and rear speakers first, to keep up with the center. If I switch from bitstream to PCM in the setup of my TechniSat receiver, there is such a big difference, because the signal is stereo and the BL9 and BL4 do not receive only the sparsely DD 5.1 information, they receive like the center stereo information. But you can not compare stereo with DD 5.1.

Yes, I was also wondering if it is a difference between DD and DTS. So, in your experience it is better to use the DD decoder of something else and let the bv 10 use the decoded sound or to use the inside decoder. If I corectly understood it is better to use an external decoder.

In a 5.1 setup, not only the weaknest of centre channel is what I found unacceptable, but the sound of the voice. Bono's voice was strange and high very easy to hear this when you switch to speaker 2 setup and you recognize his real voice.

Switching back to speaker 5 is quite "painful" to hear.

Liviu_o,

in my case, if have to dicide to hear wheater DD 5.1 (the sound information via bitstream is passed unworked through my external receiver TechniSat) with the advantage of a dolby surround sound or via PCM (the sound module of the BeoVision 10 receives the sound information from the TechniSat). If I listen PCM it is only stereo. And because it is tripple stereo (stereo for front + rear + center speaker) the sound is much fuller, louder the DD 5.1 via bitstream. But in PCM stereo there is no DD 5.1. But if I do not have dolby surround 5.1, what the hell do I need my BL4000 + BL9. So bitstream with the weak center speaker of the BV10-46 is the only way for me.

Any other idea???

I am curious about the others bv 10-46 owners and B&O dealers on this forum. We are the ÿoungest" owners of bv 10 -46 and it seems that we have the same perception about center channel and DD 5.1 audition.

I truly regret my improvised center channel made from 2 BL 4000. If it would have been possible I would add it to bv 10.

@hotknife,

Why are you only getting 2 channel PCM?  Is that all your TechniSat will provide?

For BeoVision 10-46 III
Dolby® Digital Decoder:

Sound input formats
PCM, multichannel PCM
Decoding capabilities
Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, DTS Digital surround, Neo:6, Pro Logic II
Sound modes
Speaker modes 1 - 5 :
Mode 1: Stereo centre speakers (subwoofer muted)
Mode 2: Stereo in L/R speakers (subwoofer is active)
Mode 3: Dolby 3 stereo
Mode 4: Dual stereo, stereo in L/R front and rear speakers (subwoofer is active)
Mode 5: Dolby digital, Dolby Pro-logic, DTS, Dolby 5.1

Hy symmes,

in PCM sound mode the technisat receiver is only able to provide PCM 2.0 via HDMI. So if you want to hear real DD or DTS 5.1 sound, you have to use Bitstream sound mode.

But even it would be possible to send PCM 5.1 sound to the BV 10, I would still prefer Bitstream, because sound decoding by the sound module of the beovision is better than by an external receiver.

Hi liviu_o,

it might be helpfull to set the volume of your front speakers (BL 8000) lower than 50% (default setting), because the volume of the internal center speaker of BV 10 is fix. So if you increase the volume of the whole setup, you will hear the internal speaker better.

Raeuber,

I`m asking myself if we have a tiny chance of a new built upgrade for our BV10 - with the new sound modi the BV11 is already using. Sounds very promising what I`ve heart of it. But I think, it will not happen.

Raeuber,

how can I set the volume of the font speakers? In the setup menu/sound/adjustements?

In the (german) sound menue it's called "TV-Lautstärke" (5th position). There you can adjust the volume level of all 4 speakers (front and rear, but NOT of the center, because this is fix).

No, hotknife, this will not happen, even because the development of BV 10 is finished after release of BV 11. Software built 227 will probably be the last.
