Last weekend I picked up the speaker that I saw on Facebook last year.
Several people in Denmark had doubts about it, but yes, it's a genuine Bang & Olufsen type DTS (skab). The “S” was used for floor standing models. Serial number 1944 made in 1930.
Not the most exiting design, but very well made in solid oak.
And as it looks , it could be a the only one of this type that has survived.
After a good clean it looks already a lot better.

Interesting find indeed!There can't be many of these still around - there probably never was.I have the D speaker and also the DB cabinet with speaker (or is it DT and DTB - I don't recall if they have transformers) - both havethe same speaker type, but I never saw this cabinet - not in the catalogues either.Really an unusual piece.
Oh, - and no foam rot in these.It's leather.

Typical acoustical principle, no closed box, just an open surrounding. There might be some interest from the Struer Museum?

Great piece of Bang & Olufsen history. Does it still work? How does it sound compared to modern standards?
I haven't tested the speaker. The wiring is in very poor condition and it should be replaced before conecting it to a radio.
I have heard this speaker several times and they sound very good. Even better than most of the speakers used in the 1940's and early 1950's. Of course the frequency range is limited compared to modern speakers.
I've decided to keep the speaker and witing in it's original condition.
Lee, you're right. It hasn't been in any of the old catalogs.
There is a strange, fanatical sub group of "high end" types who call themselves the "UltraFi" community. These are the guys who revel in old 300B or 2A3 based single ended tube amps, single driver loudspeaker setups, etc. Old field coil speakers are often highly prized by these types. I once saw a pair of Klangfilm ex movie theater field coil, 12 inch full range speakers go for close to $15,000 on eBay. Interesting thing about a field coil speaker, you can vary the sound (another thing to tweak!!!) by varying the amount of voltage applied to the field coil, thus changing the magnetic field the voice coil operates in.
It will be interesting to hear how you think it sounds if you get it up and running, that is if you dare risk it given the age.
