B&O it is time to incorporate servo technology into your designs. Distorted bass is unacceptable for your splendid designs the 90s. I am glad that you are moving on to three ways in the Beolab 12 range where the tiny midrange drivers will be better mated to the ALT but why put all your eggs into the ALT basket?! The ALT is a flawed design to begin with! But I am sure it can be modified to narrow its dispersion Properly design low distortion wide dispersion tweeter and over engineer your small bass midrange drivers and add DSP servo control into the mix and there no compromise! Who needs analog inputs into their speakers nowadays anyway? There's a reason why you came out with the Playmaker! You knew! I bet if you can charge a bookshelf speaker with all those technologies included at the range of the lab9s you will be very profitable. The ALT lenses are expensive to make and don't exactly deliver ( Alt sounds impressive at first listen but with your clinical hyper detailed amps mated to it, it is a recipe for disaster, it is detail + analytical = shrill) and resonant plastic for the body for the Lab9s who wants that? B&O should do like a glamour no compromise range and a cheap and chic line like Prada vs Miu Miu. I think we might have a case of a very strong brand but weak CEO at the helm here. I think what they need is a passionate visionary CEO like Steve jobs are at least someone who is passionate about product, design and music, and not only commerce. The 80s-90s corporate culture is really out of style.
Look at how many awards the Beoplay A9 has garnered before it even launched! That's the case of appropriate design meets high performance and moderate build quality along with a decent price. Perfect balance!
I would get the Beolab 3's.
Too long to list....
bayerische: I would get the Beolab 3's.
I hope you are using them as computer speakers because I think this might be all they are good for. I think the frequency response for the Lab3s are highly uneven in room at least. Not remotely neutral. I think the money put into ALT lenses are better invested into the construction of the tweeter itself say less distortion with lower extension and better dispersion. The problem is that the ALT might be perfect for dispersing high frequency but not speakers are mastered on it so it will standout for all recordings in room at least unless the whole frequency spectrum disperses like the ALT does say the Beolab5s otherwise....
