Hold on. First an A9 MK4 now a new E8 and E6 Motion?

https://www.t3.com/amp/news/bang-olufsen-beoplay-e8-motion

Anyone know any more about these even newer than the new v2 E8’s?

I've only just bought a brand new pair of E6's in the last week (and worn them) and there's a new revision already Crying

Saw that on my Google feed... apparently it's IP54 rated for moisture resistance, which I guess is what they meant by 'physically' updated (according to the article I read). "Digitally" updated also seems to simply point to a new profile in the app, which supposedly has enhanced bass.

The E6, as it goes on to explain, has a "splash resistant rubber cord", although I'm not sure what it was before, but if it's anything like prior Apple TV power cords, rubber may just accumulate unsightly dust.

All in all, it seems more like a superficial update to me.

I think you misunderstood. We can read what it is and achieves, it’s just that B&O is suddenly adopting a strange habit of making a new launch, then updating the same product with new features only a few weeks or months later. E8 2.0 has only recently been released.

The Motion version is ideal for me as I mostly use the E6 for running or gym. And I sweat a lot!

My fault. The article I chanced upon seemed to have details that weren't mentioned in the T3 article.

Anyway, I was going to mention that unless you were seriously using it for active [workout] purposes, I wouldn't sweat it..... but I guess this one actually hits the nail on the head for your circumstances.

And yes, I am just as confused as many about these untimely updates. Not sure if it's a strategic move on their part or what. My fear is that they may just be 'panic releases' to get the brand in the 'what's new' sections of tech blogs.

Yep. I just can't fathom why they couldn't have built in the 'Motion' support in to the E8 2.0 which was only just released! Perplexing.

I do like the E6 Motion in White. I've just bought a new pair in Sand Surprise

Find this a bit strange as well. I guess for the E8 the only difference appear to be the "fins" and the color. I bougt the E8 2.0 in natural color and will see if its possible (wich I assume) to buy the fins separately. The earbud looks the same so the fins should fit.

Noticed the "Motion campaign" to be a "online exclusive - for a limited time only"

To be honest it looks like a marketing stunt. How would these be more sweat proof than the regular one? They are filled with glue anyway.

"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"

It really is difficult to say, you're right. They look like they have additional rubber rings/seals added where the cables connect to the plastic components? But if you look at the E6 specs, they say "Splash Protection: Yes"

Could be marketing. I do note the E6 Motion isn't any more expensive than a regular E6.

I also think the "limited time" component points toward just marketing.  Sure, B&O builds limited edition products with new/different colors, but additional waterproofing seems beyond a new color.  Why build a "limited time" product vs. a limited time packaging / new ear pads?

Here's the thing.... how much 'splash resistant' was the prior model anyway, as leo mentioned? Did they just not test the prior model to get an official rating value for moisture resistance? I'm sure they beefed it up maybe a bit, with a couple of seals here and there. But to be honest, it could be a case like those scissors advertised on the tele... was it really meant to cut through radiator hoses, or did they just see if it could, and then use that as a feature over the previous model?

I'm swinging more toward this 'motion' model being more of a marketing tactic, moxxey, but if anything, aren't you still within the no-questions-asked return policy (which is the route I myself would take, to be fair)?

Believe me, I know how you're feeling... I got my H9's and 8's not too long before the i's came out with USB C - arguably superficial as well, but hey, that is what is should have been from the get go. And while we're on 'superficial', i'm thinking about getting those bronze H9i's... which I doubt has any effect on performance whatsoever Wink

I just bought a pair of E8 motions, and there are two very minor, but important, differences to the standard e8.  First, there's a small nub that you hook the fin on, and there's also a short, hollow cylinder protruding from the microphone.  This is so the fin doesn't block the microphone.  You can buy the fins separately (B&O site under accessories), but you would need to place them very carefully to not block the microphone, and I believe they could slide off somewhat easily without the nub and microphone stack holding it in place.

I realize I'm late to the party with this answer, but I'm writing this for future readers as this was a question I wrestled with before purchase as the e8 2.0s were a bit cheaper than the motions... but now that I've had the motions for a week, I don't think it would work well to "convert" a standard 2.0 into a motion.  I also think the fins work pretty well to keep them securely in place while active.

Also, there's still a lot of a e8 1.0s out there, and they are not always labeled clearly.  The key difference that you can see on most sites is the 2.0 charges with a USB-C while the 1.0 has the older micro-USB.

Do you like the sound on the E8 motion? Is the bass stronger as they fit / stay better in your ears than normal E8’s?

Did not hear them myself but from reviews I learned that they were a bit short in the bass performance in comparison to the Sennheiser Moment.

What is your experience?

I do like the sound. I can only compare them to other B&O earbuds. To me, they sound very similar to e4 and h3 (own both). Like the e4, I find the rubber ear tips provide the best sound, but with the foam tips, they are a bit lacking in bass. Like the others, without a good seal in your ears, they don’t sound great. The “wings” on the motions do help keep the seal by minimizing their movement in your ear. Although, this is probably ear shape dependent.

At the time I was researching these (maybe 6 mos ago), the sennheisers had a lot of bad reviews (similar to the initial e8s). With to e8 2.0s, it seems like the problems have been resolved. I didn’t bother researching all the competitors again. It’s quite possible (probable) the sennheisers have been fixed too.

I do have a problem when exercising with the rubber tips because they seem to amplify the vibrations from my footsteps. This is especially bad on a treadmill. I’ve been experimenting with other tips, and the foam tips seem to be better. I then boost the bass with the beo app, and it sounds pretty good. I’m also thinking about experimenting by poking a few holes in the rubber tips.

Got my hands on a nice pair of E8 Motion in white. I must say that I’m impressed with the sound. Had to try all the sizes of both the fins and the buds and the difference is really big. With correct fit they sound the same as my H6 but with the wrong fit they are (of course) terrible. Make sure you test it properly.

The quality of the look&feel is very high, great earphones. For full retail price I was not tempted but if you can find them for round €200 or less, go for it!

I also have the white E8 Motion and agree they are decent. Look good, sound good and get a lot of people trying to see what they are. Plus I can use them when I run and if they come loose, you don't lose an earbud.
