I have salvaged an old system destined for the skip. I plan to refurbish it but the x25s are beyond saving. Is there a better quality B&O Speaker that would replace the X 25s thank you

I believe any B&O speaker would be better than the X25...

What is the system? X25s were not great in any respect expect for the fact they were cheap. If you are dealing with a B&O system made in Denmark, the S45.2 is the standard recommendation. If you have found one of the Japanese made systems, (Beocenter 2000, 2100, 2200 or 4000) I would recommend the Redline range which suit the amplifier in these better. RL60s as long as they have had the capacitors replaced are very good.

From Beovox X25 you can really only go up, as long as we're talking about 1970s and 1980s speakers.

Beovox S30 (Type 6301) is the same size as the X25, but far better sounding.

The vastly overlooked series Beovox 1702, 2702, 3702, 4702, 5702 are also great speakers in their own right.

It's a Beomaster 2000 and it seems to work well when connected to the X25's, ie not unwanted noises, hum or crackles so probably worth investing in some better speakers. Thank you

Ummmm... what he said.

I got a pair of MC35's in at the same time as a pair of X25's and just threw them into the same category.  However, I was gobsmacked at how good the MC35's were!!

Worth getting some decent speakers - I take it you mean the 2000 with touch sensitive controls? Looks like a 2400 but has the hybrid chip amplifier used in the later B&O as opposed to the discreet transistors.

I would go for the aforementioned S45.2s on floor stands if you can find them. S55s or the larger S80s are a reasonable and cheaper option but suffer from foam rot .

I do have some Beovox 5000s going for nothing ! Big Smile

Large photo

Pick up only - would work but are quite large!! They are actually the ones pictured!! Stars of Beoworld and Beocentral! You can pair them with Beovox 2500s but these would cost more than the rest of the system put together and make no difference to the sound!!

As said on Facebook Beovox X series sounds horrible.

Any suggestions here would benefit the Beomaster 2000 even going to your local thrift stores and picking the best pair you can get.

Back in 2003 I discovered the same thing as I had in a sudden way gotten all 3 units for the Beosystem 2000 and I found online that Beosystem 2000 Beovox X35 was the recommended ones so I got a nice looking pair on Ebay.co.uk. Sadly they sounded horrible and so I went to a thrift store to get a better pair and then I enjoyed the Beosystem for the next 3 years.

When it came to sell the Beosystem 2000 seller wanted the X35's and I did warn them but anyway they insisted and I had no problems with that. So I had the thrift store pair left over.

It does make you wonder why these were made. Looking back, I had a pair of S22 speakers which were at a similar place in the hierarchy of B&O speakers (the very bottom!) but these were real wood and had a dome tweeter and were from 1977. Rather nice little things if I remember correctly!Picture by Peter McEvedy
