Hi everyone,

I’m new to this forum so my apologies in advance if I’m not doing this right. I have just entered the Bang & Olufsen world and naturally, I’m in love.

However, I’m having a small problem that I can’t seem to get to the bottom of, and was wondering if any of you have experienced this / know the solution. I have looked in your forum archives/active threads and do not see this mentioned.

I have 2 x M3s and 1 x M5 (with a ton more speakers in my shopping cart- ha!), and I use Airplay 2 via Apple Music. I have a Google Wifi router— and it generally works very well. However— I’ve noticed that if I add to the ‘up next’ feature on Apple Music (i.e. if I add a song to the queue to play next)— the two M3s get kicked off the connection. The M5 continues to play as normal. I then have to unselect and re-select the M3s (in the airplay menu) and they then re-sync. They will not resync without my intervention. It’s very frustrating as I often add songs to ‘up next’— and now it seems to lose the connection when I do.

I should note that it plays perfectly if the up-next is uninterrupted- no disconnection issues.

Have any of you experienced anything like this? I’m fairly tech savvy, and my only assumption is that the Apple Music app is quietly buffering/uploading the next track in the background somewhere, and when I alter it/add to it, it somehow disrupts the connection to the M3s and disconnects them.

Any advice would be gladly received— I’ve been speaking with B&O support but they’re so slow to respond that I figured this may be more fruitful.

Thanks in advance—

Ben

EDIT: I made a youtube video to properly display the problem I'm having-- I've uploaded it here:

I use Airplay 2 extensively. The two things you might want to look at are the wifi connection in the house and then the M3s. Given that your M5 isn't dropping, you can place all 3 speakers next to each other and try the same experiment. If you see drops on the M3 then the issue is with the M3 software or hardware.

I have a Beoplay A9 now and AirPlay 2 works flawlessly. I also used to have a pair of Beoplay A6s (that I recently replaced with HomePods) that also connected flawlessly. I have never seen an M3 in action. In my home,  I use a Google wifi mesh network to ensure good wifi performance.

B&O in my life 😊:

  • Beolab 8002 + Beolab 2 + Beosound Core with Essence Remote (Office)
  • Beolab 6000 + Beolab 11 + Beosound Core with Essence Remote (Bedroom)
  • Beoplay A9 Mk2 (Living Room)
  • Beosound 1 with wireless dock (Portable)
  • Beosound Balance (Dining)
  • Beoplay H95 (Focused listening, travel)
  • Beoplay H9 (3rd gen) (retired)
  • Beoplay P6 (Portable)
  • Beotime wall clock (hallway entrance)
  • BMW X5 50i with B&O Audio Package (Commute/drive)

Thank you for your insight- this is helpful.

I am wondering if it is something to do with the bandwidth of my wifi connection not being big enough--but if that were the case, it doesn't make sense as to why the M5 would work when the M3s wouldn't (and the M5 is further away from the router).

I'll try your suggestion re re-locating the M3s near the M5 and see if it helps. Thank you!

Ben:
I’ve noticed that if I add to the ‘up next’ feature on Apple Music (i.e. if I add a song to the queue to play next)— the two M3s get kicked off the connection. The M5 continues to play as normal.

Have you tried:

1 - Same operation with only the two M3

2 - Same operation with the M5 and only one M3

Based on the tests outputs you may be able to confirm if it is a B&O issue or an IOS/Airplay 2/Apple Music issue.
