Hello,
I'm thinking of making my first sound system.
I would like to ask two questions to the connaisseurs.
1. I'm interested in beolab 8000. I found some around 500euros that seem in decent condition. Have you got any idea of the price of such a device? Is 500e OK.?
2.My idea is to combine my media setup which include a Mac mini as media hub and a TV to a sound system with the beolab 8000 and a simple Amp as the yamaha as 201. Is this sound like a good idea to audiophiles?
Please bear in mind that I'm a complete newbie!
Thanks for your help
1. 500€ for a pair of Beolab 8000 is an average used price these days, I would say. Make sure that the tweeters are not blown. Moreover, I would look at the serial number and try to get some that are not as old (google Bang Olufsen Serial number/Age relationship). There was a bass update at some point, after serial number 16992475, but I don't think you can get those for 500€. I think the sweet spot (price/performance) for beolab 8000 would be a serial number starting with 12-16, in my experience.
2. All Beolab speakers are active, meaning that they have an amplifier build in and don't require external amplification. Beolab 8000 have RCA connections, so you can go from your TV/Mac mini directly to the speakers.
Thank you for your answer. Really helpful. So there is truly not any advantages to implement amplifier in the loop?
I will check the serial number. I love beolab design and I have great experience with bo product. I have one headphone 7 and ive been using an old hifi of them for years, that I dont have anymore. The one cd/cassette player with two curved amps.

Can you please explain a little more..?

I meant curved speakers like this. Bust the center was not the one on this pic it was with touch button CD player / radio and cassette. Will find the reference. I belong to my flatmate so now I want to get these beolab 8000. Will submit pictures and serial number to you guys. Thank you for help and interest, i really appreciate.
I went checking around and I see a lot of mk1 for 750-850 euros :/ some mk2 for more than 1000. I will attach picture. They are nice but on got a mark on the lower part. What do you think? I have this option for around 550e or another one for 750 serial n 135x.

Oh, I see - those are the "curved" ones...I guess the music system you're describing is this one - a Beocenter 9500 (or 9300/9000/8000/8500):
Which country do you live in? Here in Denmark those prices that you mention would be rather high - but I guess that B&O is more expensive in most other countries...
Personally I would go for a mk2.
The prices for BL8000's in DK are usually around 4-600€ for a pair of mk1 - and 7-900€ (and up) for a pair of mk2.
A few months ago, I bought a pair of BL8000 mk2's in near mint condition for only 3000 DKKr (approx. 400€) -that was an extremely low price...even in Denmark. I sold them later for twice the price I really didn't need more speakers in my house (as those of you who have read my other postings over the years might have noticed) - that's why I sold them again. I just wanted to try to have a pair of those in my house and hear what they sound like. Those are very nice speakers with a good detailed sound - but offcourse with some natural limits in the bass level.
Its exactly this one yes!
Im french but currently in Poland which has a poor offer of this kind of product. The picture above are the one for 500.
The other one 135, (mk1 then i suppose) are in mint condition. 750. Im open to check something in Denmark as well but the delivery must be pricy and id better see them before getting them.
Thank you for the help!
Yes ! I can't stop saying it: here in France prices are higher the the one discussed on that forum even if you spend time and patience you 'sometimes' find good bargains or similar offers.
On our main classified ad website, I've often meet with 3 possibilities:
- People know what they sell -> price is fair and open to discussion (people wanting to get rid of old BV Avant or dysfunctional item).- People dont know what they sell -> price is a steal in the good way (People selling old useless vintage hifi from family heritage).- People who believe they know what they sell -> price is a steal in the bad way (People who have vaguely heard about B&O reputation or put forward original retail price even if the item is outdated (BV3 @ 500€+, Beosound 3 @ 300€+, Beosystem 2500 @ 1000€+).
Not to mention all the faulty units sold at high price, claiming "easy to fix, but I dont have time…"
Average price for BL8000 is 1000€ (from 800 to 1200). Never less and they're all MK1.
Hi matador,
So these prices i mentioned before seem ok for you? What do you think of the overall condition of the pictures I attached?
Merci

Yes they're close to what I see everyday on "Leboncoin".Regarding the pictures attached, I only can see a scratch at the base of one cone and maybe some transparency in one cloth (maybe the light). If they are between 500 and 700€ i would pay attention to them as the defects are quite minor (maybe the scratch can be polished). But as someone already said, it's important to listen to the speaker at least to test for distortion or vibration. Also check serial number and do a search for foam rot. If any speaker is concerned you'll end up having to dismantle the whole speaker at the best so better to be warned.
The one at 750 is sold by a vintage hi-fi shop which claim 12months warranty.
