Hello,
This my introduction. Yesterday I purchased a Beogram RX of dubious provenance. It has a cartridge attached that "doesn't work." Of course I came straight home and signed up for BEOWORLD.
My plan is to lurk around and understand more how this community operates to guide some of my next steps. My assumption is that I'll be buying a different cartridge. I'm interested in finding out other tests to check out the unit. Also, other issues that typically occur with this that I should be aware of.
Lastly, it is a "Beogram RX" there is a number 5773 printed on the bottom, and there is a serial number too. How do people here refer to specific makes and models to be most helpful? Does 5773 point to a year of manufacture? A specific variant?
Are there any repair facilities in Southern California that have a good reputation for working with this type of turntable.
Thank you all.

Great,
So my RX, is a 5773 which means it is the 120v (north American) model.
It has RCA plugs instead of the more usual din.
The serial number is: 3255050 <--which can be used to figure out the date it was manufactured.
Originally it came without a cartridge and it was possible to use the MMC1-5.

The cartridge in it right now that doesn't work is a MMC4.

Also, must I buy a phono stage to use with this and my amplifier? Would the new Soundsmith SMMC4 cartridge be considers a MM or a MC type of needle?
Hi there, can I ask you a question? So, my uncle swears that he'll make me a little present in my marriage. It will be the SPL Phonos ProFi like he was saying: "to fill our house with classic and clear sound" (man crazy a little on it). I have already investigated what is this (try this web-site) but clearly, don't understand why am I need it and for what. Thanks!
Thank you so much, it seems I need to read some more about this.
With a nice referral from the good people here at BeoWorld, this morning I shipped my MMC4 cartridge off to be rebuilt, as opposed to buying a new one from Soundaudio. Nothing against them, but it was a tiny bit cheaper, and why not "reuse" rather than "replace."
Thank you,

I understand if you are a bit confused. Most pickups are either MM (moving magnet) og MC (moving coil) types. Most common is MM types. B&O had their own type: MMC - which means "Moving Micro Cross".The MMC design was invented and patented by Bang & Olufsen. The MMC cartridge is a variation of the Moving Iron (MI) design. Magnets and coils are stationary while a micro cross moves with the stylus, thereby varying the distances between the arms of the cross and the magnets. It is claimed that the MMC design allows for superior channel separation, since each channel's movements appear on a separate axis.I'm sure that people wiser than me can explain the differences between the other types - or just try searching MM/MC on the net.
-here's the MMC:
Steffen, that is fantastic. Thank you.
What is the best practice for shipping a Beogram RX?
Tie down the arm? How should it be packed? Broken down? What are the basics for safely packing up a this Beogram and shipping it?
I understand the box and the padding part, it is the 'preparing the beogram' part I'm interested in. Thank you.
