Hi guys I'm just wondering if anyone can help me out with my my Beocom 2 Mk 2 Phones and Beoline 2 Base? I've recently changed phone line providers from BT to Sky and have encountered an issue on changeover day which is that I can recieve calls but if I try to ring out, I hear the normal dial tone but after dialing the number I get an engaged tone or a message along the lines of the number is no longer available or the number does not exist.
I have checked the B&O phone in by plugging it into the BT socket next door and it works fine
I have plugged a cheap as chips phone into the sky socket and it works ok
I've plugged The B&O back into the sky socket and have the no ringing out problem again.
I've been in touch with online chats with numerous Sky personnel usually in the middle of a change of shifts so I have to go through it all again! but haven't made any progress. (they are blaming the phones)
I tried the B&O support line and they advised "This matter is more than likely caused by an issue in the set up of the device. We would recommend you contact one of your local retailers to have the unit configured and set up again since you have changed your service provider." so I phoned our local retailer who i have a good relationship with (using my mobile ) but they said re-setting it wouldn't make a difference and to be fair I didn't feel comfortable about bothering them as they have a living to make which wouldn't be helped by messing around with my ancient phones!
I have re-set the phone myself using 9#9#9*int but that didn't help
By a sheer fluke I've found that if I prefix the outgoing phone number with a random digit from 0-9 it works perfectly which makes me think that there is a solution out there somewhere?? any suggestions apart from sticking a "0" in front of the number would be gratefully received....Many thanks
Good morning and welcome to Beoworld!
It's a bit of a guess, but you could try using an RJ11 cable (from Beoline to Sky Hub) that reverses the polarity (i.e switching between 'straight' and 'reversed' connections.). I have had problems with Beocom phones in the past where switching RJ11 cables solves the issue. You may need to buy a separate RJ11 to BT plug adaptor in order to give this a try, but all these cables and connector are very cheap.
Alternatively, if you change to an older Beocom 6000 base or PSTN base (in lieu of the Beoline 2), there is a Beocom 2 'switchboard' function that will automatically add an extra digit or digits of your choosing before the outgoing number. This is mentioned on page 27 of the User Guide.
Disclaimer: I don't own a Beocom 2 (or Sky modem), but have about 30 other Beocoms somewhere in my collection and am just trying to help!
Hello Guy thank you for the welcome, it's great to be in the group!
Apologies in advance if I fail to understand anything... tec. stuff isn't one of my strong points.
In a nutshell, for years I had everything with BT, Phones, Broadband & mobiles but when I had a chance to look at it I seemed to be paying over the odds so I recently took a Sky Broadband , sky q box and landline package and seperate sim only contracts with 02 for my mobiles.
This is the bit where I may not have grasped your advice, the sky broadband hub and the beoline 2 cables are plugged into seperate ports in the original BT master socket on the wall that I was using in the BT days. as far as I'm aware everything is the same but I'm just paying sky instead of Bt for the use of the line, is this how you see it in your minds eye?
I used to have an old style PSTN base that I used with a couple of beocom 6000s prior to the beocom 2s but Its gone AWOL probably in a 6ft flood that we had in 2015, I managed to save the phones though, there seems to be plenty of the old bases around so I don't mind getting hold of one but do you think there may be a loss of functionality with my mk2 Beocom 2s
many thanks for your help, its greatly appreciated.
Hi Marcus
I know this is an old post but I had the same issue as you - see this post:
https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/13855/120978.aspx#120978
I tried many options with no success and finally went back to BT and everything worked so this is definately an issue with Sky!
I have exactly the same problem, i have had my two phones serviced and they are in good working order but with the sky landline incoming calls do not ring, any fresh ideas Marcus. Hope you have sorted your problem out, simon
i have just read your message again marcus and noticed we have opposite problems. I can ring out OK but the phones will not ring when the home landline is called (and my provider is Sky). My phones were taken to a B and O dealer who did tests and then they were checked at a service depot so I know the fault is not with the phones, best, simon
