Hi,

I recently bought Beo6 remote. Seller described it as working but stated that since someone opened it, it is for parts or not working. He also stated that it needs new battery.

I opened it. Gave it good clean and installed new battery. While playing with it I discovered that soft keys on the bottom right corner of the display don’t respond very well. Also, some time soft keys (especially bottom row one) will get highlighted without user interaction.

I got into service menu and tried Touch Test. Looks like few numbers there is out of its ranges. Below I attached picture with my observations. Those numbers tends to drift over time.

For reference, here is how this is described in Beo5 service manual:

When the test is activated, white decimal numbers are shown for each display area. As long as all numbers are white, the test is OK. Only if any of the values are displayed in red, the test is failed. Note! The value turns red when you press the display harder than usual.

Now my question to someone who have more experience with this unit.
If someone ever came across similar problem, is it fixable? If so, how?

Is it possible to open display part of the remote, have a look inside it and then put it back together without permanently breaking it?

As always, any suggestions welcome.
Thanks for your time and help,

Henryk

Hi,

I had similar problems on 2 Beo6 remotes. It can’t be repaired because the screen can’t be dismantled. The only solution is to replace the whole screen part.

Hi Guy,

Thanks for note.

I guess your comment confirms my understanding.

Just out of curiosity. Did you ever manage to figureout what is actually happening that cause this odd behavior of display unit? Something deteriorates inside? Something mechanical issue happens to it? If you already replaced two units, did you ever open broken one to have a look inside?

Cheers,
Henryk

Hi Henryk,

I have no clue why some sections of the screen stop working properly. It’s certainly not linked to a shock. One day everything works perfectly, the next day part of the screen is dead. Very annoying!

I completely dismantled a screen. Several layers are glued together. Impossible to put them back.

Actually, I managed to successfully dismantle and put back together a beo6 screen which was also faulty.
It needs a lot of care and some glue to mount it back.

Unfortunatly, there was nothing inside I found to fix (or even understand).

That beo6 is now working with only the hard keys and the screen acting as a simple display showing which device is commanded.
