Pipe dream or should I go for it?

Growing up my dad had the complete Beomaster 3000 system that is in the MOMA.  Like an idiot I sold the complete set (all rosewood btw) about 15 years ago as I wasn't that interested then (I prefer less aesthetic audio gear, well I did then!).

So now I'm listening to vinyl again, though I'd like the receiver from this set what I' really like would be the turntable.  The aesthetic is now exactly what I want and it would have sentimental value for me.

The question is though, is this just pure folly?  I know the carts are practically unicorns and I'm assuming there may be other issues I am unaware of.

Should I even bother trying to get a Beogram 3000 or just forget it?  

If it's exactly what you want go and get it. If it has issues, here are enough B&O lovers on this forum that can help you or know somebody that can help you.

You may gain two good things:

- the turntable you really want

Stylus should not be a concern. Many quality rebuilds now and a new (albeit kind of ugly) option from Soundsmith out of New York. For low end options they are a little more expensive than comparable carts but for higher quality spec end, they are often cheaper than comparable carts on the market nowadays.

Of you’re not into DIY, a well restored vintage set can be found with a bit of hunting and will be well worth the investment, in my opinion.

Maybe I'm wrong but i think he's talking about the BG3000 type 5228 which use SP cartridges. Those ones are not easy to find or rebuilt as far as i know and tried.

Nevertheless, the BG3000 (and similar) can be easily found in quite good shape so, me too would advise to find one and buy it!

OK, so I found what looked great on eBay.  Original owner, original box and all the papers!  Cosmetically very nice.

Now the bad part, the seller didn't pad or stabilize the platter in transit, so it came off and took out the counter weight on the tone arm (plus the cart was knocked off and just rolling around......haven't analyzed that yet!).

I can't figure out if this is toast or not as I can't figure out how to disassemble!
