Did the amp survive new years eve?
I agree:
I've just "successfully" change the components on the left output amplifier of my BM 8000. When I reconnected it, it made Bang, no more Olufsen, with fire and smoke near the connectors of the pcb.... But I couldnt find anybody to do the job here so at least I tried. Anyway when I opened it, all the resistors were already black and some of the solders of the transistors were cracked so it would have failed anyway one day or another...

Haha, yes it sure did!

That's a shame, I was quite scared that would also happen to mine when I plugged it in. Not a very rewarding result after 10 hours of desoldering and soldering.
The setting of the trimmers are very critical! Setting the idle trimmer just a bit wrong, can cause a huge current in the output stages. Most likely are the TIP's defect/short circuited. Aside the burned traces which probably also are affected.
Very sorry to read that this happened to you
The smoke was coming from the two big resistors. Now, when I connect it, it doesnt even go on standby. I've checked the fuse and they're fine. So I now consider it dead. I wanted to do the job right after the new years eve. At least it served me well during the past 6 months, especially yesterday....
My advice: if it works don't touch it... And if anything, ask a specialist to do the job (if someone can do it around you that is!!)
I put a beomaster 2400 in it's place that I successfully refurbished last week... It's nice but it's so not the same...
To those who have a working unit: take care of it and appreciate the facts that yours is not burnt!!!
