Good Afternoon,
I'm expecting a Beoplay A3 hopefully delivered in the next few days. While waiting, I'm doing a little research and found that presentation on youtube from a B&O dealer stating near the end:
"Available with bumpers to fit iPad1 and iPad2,And iPad three is coming as well…"
I wonder if that means it was a second batch of Beoplay A3 with a specific rubber to the thicker iPad3 or if in the end people was using the iPad2 bumper and forcing it into the cradle?
Also, I know after reading the forum that the beosetup app from that time is not necessary and not available anymore. But I wonder if someone has the .ipa file somewhere and would agree to share it. I like complete sets!
Thanks.

We got two surrounds with our A3. One fitted the iPad 1, the other fitted both our iPad 2 and its later replacement... and iPad 3. So I don't think you should need anything else - one adapter fits both the iPad 2 & 3. At least it did for us!

Thank you Mark,
I should have the A3 soon. I already own an old iPad2 and I'm lurking an iPad3 just to get the little outdated power push.
Great to hear there's not a specific rubber to that last one.
Thaïs again.
Hi,
The A3 arrived today, complete with box, two cradles, power supply and papers.I've quickly tried it with iPad1 and iPad2. Of course no app is needed, it works plug'n'play.
Two interesting things i noticed:- there was an annoying static background noise with the iPad1. It happens it came from the internal equalization from iOS. Turning it off solve the problem.- I though the speakers option in the general setting (for flat or speech emphasis)was linked to the Beosetup app. It is not, the settings appears as soon as the iPad is docked. I just tried it with sung music without noticing much difference but i will try it with a movie or a tv show soon.
Now the A3 is charging in order to check the battery health which i suspect to be not good at all.And next challenge is to find an iPad3 to use it as a portable TV set.
Hope this helps…
I have an iPad 3 in mine. I started out with an original iPad 1 but it got to where the version of iOS it ran wouldn't run Spotify and such anymore, so I found an iPad 3 on eBay.
I only had two inserts to hold the iPad as noted and the one for the iPad2/3 worked fine. My battery is pretty shot now, only works for about 10 min unplugged from the adapter, but I haven't tried replacing it which I imagine to be a futile effort.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
Thank you Jeff for answering,
I will confirm all this as soon as I have an iPad 3 (just to be sure nobody else ask itself the same question again!).

I suspect mine will be the same (it was sold as store demo) but i dont think it would be a futile effort to replace the battery. Unless you mean that it would be difficult to impossible on that device.Googling it, I found pictures of spare batteries which would point to the idea that people can change it. But i also found nothing about opening it: even on Beoworld, the three threads asking about that are dead without answer, just on guy telling he removed the 3 screws (I dont even see them! )
Anyway, learning how to open it would be great, if somebody knows…
I admit I haven't really tried on the battery, but if there are options to replace I'll be interested. I guess I should look at the thing and see if I an figure out how to take it apart. Always an issue with modern products, so many seem designed to never be disassembled, you have to break them to take them apart and hope you can do it in a way that you can stick it back together.
Off to google batteries I guess. Hmmmm.
Here you go. It is very easy to open the A3 to change the battery
pictures say more ....
first ...
second ...
wait a second ...
wait an other second ...
and finaly you find a big secret
Beozip:Here you go. It is very easy to open the A3 to change the battery
Oh Beozip! A thousand thank you! Thats very reassuring to know a minimum servicing is possible with those kind of device… I'm now fully confident the A3 and me gonna be good friends for long times! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
(But there's still a question: what could possibly be that mysterious RJ45 socket? Ethernet? Power link? Hummmmm…)
Many thanks Beozip! Now to source a battery.
Hi Beozip,
By the way did you take some measurements of the battery in the process?By the references it should be 3 cells the same model used in electronic cigarettes but I'm not sure of that.
Thanks in advance.
Really helpful, and I have now managed to take a look at my A3 battery. However, I also have a defective power socket on the corner of the A3.... my guess is that it has a solder break somewhere on an internal connection.
I tried taking out all the screws on the backplate in the hope that I could part the A3 and get at the internals, but I couldn't shift anything. Has anyone managed to get right inside an A3?
Graham
Just to add.... I can't find that particular Varta battery anywhere. If you were looking for an alternative, where do the three wires connect (battery end and A3 internal socket end)?
Correction... you can find substitute batteries by googling A3 Beoplay rather than putting the Varta numbers in.
Still interested to know how the three wire connection works though!
vikinger:Still interested to know how the three wire connection works though!
If it's the same wiring than Beo5/6 batteries, two wires are +/- and the third goes to a resistance which i suppose to be thermal protection otherwise connected to one of the battery terminals (sorry for being a little fuzzy, I did the cells replacement on the spot without taking notes).
By googling the cells reference I came to a (close to) AA sized 3,7v cell which seems to be quite common. Should be easy to built a battery, following the original wiring… Now if you found a source for replacement batteries, I may depends from the price…
Vikinger, if you have a faulty power socket... maybe your battery is OK.
Mark: Vikinger, if you have a faulty power socket... maybe your battery is OK. Mark
Maybe, but I am actually now looking to put a new power socket on the back of the A3, and then wire it to the battery in the hope that I can bypass what I believe to be a solder break ( the existing socket is actually very loose). Just having an OK battery does not address my particular issue.
Good evening to you alls,
Then I finally found an iPad 3 (iOS 8.xx) and (if it was only necessary) can confirm it fit without any problem into the standard iPad 2 cradle.
The "Speaker" menu into "Settings" is also still there.
Thank you to all those who helped me make up my mind.
(I like that thing: it allows to share my Mac Mini media library thanks to UPnP and watch it anywhere in the house in good enough quality. Makes me wonder if there is or why there isn't a similar device for new iPads)
Hi, I managed to get mine opened up. You need to carefully remove the two aluminium trims. That exposes a number of small screws. Once they have been removed the two halves of the casing can be prised apart using a couple of guitar plectrums.
Unfortunately I cant see why its not working. This particular one is white (unusual) so I might just look out for a scruffy black one on eBay and swap the parts over.
Was it possible to remove the trims without damaging them, so the device can be restored to its former glory?
