Good evening,
In a B&O discussion thread in flatpanels.dk, the following job offer was mentioned:
https://candidate.hr-manager.net/ApplicationInit.aspx?cid=1462&ProjectId=143764&uiculture=en&MediaId=5
In the description, the following is mentioned:
"Help build a cutting-edge Bang & Olufsen audio streaming platform?"
Good reading,
Jean
Oh yeah.. Let's do that! Let's compete with Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, Qobus.
Djee... I'm wondering why B&O is losing money...
I do hope that someone at management level steps up and says STOP.
Transparant integration of streaming services: YES... Building a platform allowing you to stream your music throughout the house in a user friendly way: YES.
But please not a additional commercial music streaming service
Having completely read the article... yes... by all means... please build a robust audio system with a descent user friendly control!
Karel.
Say goodbye to Network Link then....
outside chance whatever platform they build is compatible, in some broad sense.
But longer term, 5 years or so, NL will be history.

Mikipidia:I’ve been saying for nearly a year now that NL will be dead in the near future. It’s already an 20-80 split between NL and AP(2)/CC so it makes sense in a way. Fotunately both of those work well if not better than NL.
Just because you don’t use it 🤔
Ask Willie that question.
P.S. I am a heavy NL user - don’t give a sh*t about AP2 - I use AP, because you can redirect that via NL.
CC is nice, when you stream (video or audio) to one device - not for audio-multiroom.......unless you want to get trapped in the Google Home world.
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
Sandyb:Careful, you’ll have awoken the beast with that comment!
I know....that you would react to that post.
However, coupling ‘a new device from B&O’ with NL being eol’ed is pure speculation - we don’t know anything about that platform yet.

Mikipidia:No, not because of me. You don’t need to read in to it so much, but rather read what I said. I told you in the current user base that the split is roughly 20-80 between the two. When new customers come in and even less of them start using NL, it makes perfect sense to me that they put even less time in to maintaining/developing it especially when funds are scarce. I am not saying this is a good idea, nor am I saying I agree with it. By that same token if they where actually so concerned about what you or I use, then they would’ve at the very least kept on making the NL/ML convertor as there are still a big amount of people using ML that now have no upgrade path. I don’t know how many new products you buy, but if B&O has showed anything over the past few years is that it doesn’t care much about legacy customers. And the upcoming legacy backbone will be NL, although it may take 2-5 years for it to be fully dead. Again, not agreeing with it but that’s where it’s heading. New: Beolab 50's, Beolab 18's, Beolab 17's, Beovision eclipse, Beosound 9000 mk3, Beosound 1 Bronze edition, Beoplay M3. ngnear:This could be the make or break product for B&O. Their record of software driven equipment has not been very impressive in the past.
Yes, and it is really time that Bang & Olufsen is changing again its IT strategy, after
to get rid of the last loyal customers, because business could be so nice and easy without them. And winning new customers is so much easier.
How to change an initial positive meant post in something negative! Simple...... do the read!
Why is the glass always halve empty over here?
Note for the record: I experienced the sw problems also (but not to an extreem extend). NL is the best multiroom experience of B&o since they started multiroom. And IMHO for its purpose better working and simpler than GC and AP2..........but hey B&o is just small........always follow the big ones!

Optimist - the glass is half full
Pessimist - the glass is half empty
B&O - the glass is coming out in exciting new colors for Fall!
Jeff
I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.

It would be interesting, how and what is counted?Number of devices sold or real usage?Better would be to count / compare profit made. Because I assume / I hope, that B&O makes much more profit with a Beosound Core (probably more often used with NL) as with a Beoplay M3.
And when there would be a good B&O app to manage a music collection / respectively different music streaming providers (similar to Sonos app) I am 100% sure more people would use NL. But the current B&O apps usability forces you to use other apps and then there is only Airplay (AP) or Chrome Cast (CC) to stream to your B&O equipment.
Additional NL would helps to lock in more customers on the B&O platform, when there would be a decent music control software. As soon as B&O is only offering AP/CC its products gets total interchangeable.
Neither positive nor negative.
The job posting suggests strongly they are building the successor to NL.
That's probably a good thing.
It does pose questions over how existing NL devices will integrate - seamlessly or not? at the outset or promise of later? with full functionality or not?
On this latter point, give the recent experience with B&O, these are very reasonable questions?
And it may also mean the end of the physical touch to join (though I certainly hope not)

BV Horizon 48 / V1 40 / BL 17 / Beoplay S3 all black

I know…B&O virus has grown on me !
no one is being negative about NL.
Its just likely that they build a successor.
Not that difficult to understand.

So negative about NL, for me it was the reason to invest in complete multiroom setup with tv’s, speakers and NL/ML converter. Apart from some software issues in the past I find it the benchemark for multiroom, stable and flexibel. All other systems might be nice at most but nothing beats the simplicity of NL. I do hope that NL will remain for many years to come

Funny - I don’t understand what is in that link as a goodbye to NL....maybe that is just me.
Personally I’d prefer to wait for details about what
could mean.
I imagine they will do as Sonos, B&W etc have done with their streaming platform i.e. use a mesh networking type architecture.
Either way, looks like they are moving on from NL, which was always going to happen at some point, be that 3, 5 or however many years away.
And might indeed be a good development if they get it right.
Anyway, if that are building a new streaming platform, that calls time on NL, as they will only maintain 2 platforms for a limited time.
Logical conclusion.

Help build a cutting-edge Bang & Olufsen audio streaming platform? Be part of creating experiences you cannot get anywhere else – experiences that go beyond the fundamental expectations of what a product should do and have a layer of magic? could mean. MM
grrrrr
andy_js:Nothing about the job listing suggests to me that NL is dead or going to be replaced. I’m surprised that nobody has speculated on what kind of products they might build with this new platform.
One IT guy won't be fixing B&O's problems in the marketplace. That job posting reads more like a bunch of HR fluff. Maybe the real job is to invent new colours?

Ssssssh!!! Don't mention the "C" word! You'll upset people!
Millemissen: Funny - I don’t understand what is in that link as a goodbye to NL....maybe that is just me.
Indeed. I think people are reading too much into this. NL has been working on multiple hardware platforms (as many as five I guess (BeoSys 4, AndroidTV, Eclipse, Essence Mk2/A6/A9Mk2 etc, Core/M3 etc., and in the coming months a newer hardware platform will be featuring new products).
Oh dear, what a terrific complicated world...And what will be the result? How much will it have to rely on to work? And for how long will it be guaranteed to work? Will I be able to play my music on it? Or only someone elses?
