Waking up BeoPlay speakers by Line-In signal

I was wondering if the range of BeoPlay speakers, like:

• A1

• P2

• M3

• M5

Could be turned on just by the presence of a Line-In signal?

The reason why I was wondering this, is that I got my hands on a good deal of a Beosound 4, for my bedroom, and I think that I would like to connect a smaller speaker via the headphone socket. But if I have to turn on the BeoPlay speaker it self, every time, I know that it will be a bad solution.

Another question:

Will an AppleTV 4K be able to wake up a BeoPlay AirPlay 2 speaker everytime it is being turned on?

That way it would be possible to buy a no-name flat screen and control it via HDMI-CEC from the Siri Remote and use the BeoPlay speaker as a sound source .

As long as my A1 is connected to external power, it stays on.

I've got an A1 fed by an Airport express (always on) via line-in. I believe the speaker will standby by itself when no audio signal is present but it needs to be turned on manually each time.

I can't tell about beoplay airplay products but I have two airplay speaker which are supposed to wake up when signal shows up. In practice, it is very random, depending for the most part of the signal strength but also the device used to start the music and even to the version of iOS on the device.

Can't be able to find the precise reason for that but i often have to deselect/reselect the speakers in the Airplay list to wake them up. Not a big deal though.

Consider spending those extra bucks on a TV with reasonable speakers and enjoy the simplicity of the setup rather than pairing with external speakers. Using built-in speakers should rule out odd audio/video sync issues. I got myself an OLED TV from LG paired with an AppleTV 4K and expected the sound of the TV to be terrible, but it is pretty good and I would not consider messing with external speakers. After setup, the TV "smart" functions, internet connection, etc can be disabled and the remote can be put aside. Then you have a great screen+sound combination that can be turned on/off via HDMI (Apple TV remote). Works for me.

For my Beoplay A9, it already has AirPlay 2 and I can connect to it from any device that supports AirPlay 2 just like I can to the speakers connected via the Apple TV. The Beoplay A9 is also my favorite B&O speaker currently. This should work with any BeoPlay model that supports AP2.

Beoplay A1, A2 active and Beolit 17 can be updated into a retail mode which means they don't power off, Bluetooth is disabled, volume is set to maximumg (so it gets controlled by the source):

Beoplay M3 has auto sense and start's playback automatically when a line in signal is present (checked 5min ago in the kitchen) ;)

Did you try that out yourself?

My dealer could not help much since he hasn’t got the display, that mostly is used for this purpose - I guess that is more something for 3. party dealers, who had the installation (different Play speakers to test for costumers) delievered direct from B&O Play.

Often thought of using 2 S3’s as ‘pure’ speakers with L and R connection.

What be nice, if someomeone already has tested this ‘retail mode’ at home.

Hmmmm. Interesting that yours are turning in to standby, when Leo’s aren’t .

Might be a simple operation to connect the airplay 2 speaker everytime, but I think that would irritate me.

I think I know myself well enough to be unsatisfied by the built-in speakers of newer televisions, but it might be time to try them out

That’s smart! But how hard would it be to switch between normal-, and retail-mode? .

If I wanted to use the speaker on my balcony, I would like to use it via. Bluetooth.

It's not! Leo's A1 is DC powered, mine is battery powered! It make sense mine goes to sleep and his, not.
Mine is not permanently plugged into AC because I read some reports about (fully charged) batteries always connected being not good.

Anyway what I wanted to say, and after reading the other comments, maybe have not be clear enough, is that the natural behavior of any airplay speaker is to wake up when it's needed and go standby when it's not, but my experience is that sometimes, external parameters make this work not as it should.
