Hi I have just got one of these which has obviously been in a damp place and needs an overhaul.
I have the manual and have loosened the two screws at the back to get the perspex lid and turntable surround off but the arm is in the way. The lid is still firmly attached to the aluminum surround (is that correct?)
Perhaps the lid, arm and the surround is all in one piece ?
Please advise. Any pictures would help
Thanks
Hi there, the lid on my 4600 just slides backwards and away from the deck, mine is very loose in fact when I'm dusting it I frequently push the lid off by accident, it just has two clips that slide into the real of the deck, maybe yours are siezed up a bit
The complete turntable section comes off the unit in one piece.A couple of screws at the back and a plug internally once you lift it up at the rear.

Thanks! Removing the two screws completely freed the deck up and indeed it lifts out. The lid had been stuck with glue. The arm lifting mechanism is jammed up so that's the next fix. I have seen a few threads about this so will try and free it.
All the switches are gummed up with dried grease so I also have to get the front panel off.
Pull the knobs off and you can access all you need from the front.
The turntable lift mechanism is freed up. I took the locking pin out and slightly twisted the centre brass piece and from the other side pushed the arm rest down. Cleaned and given a dollop of silicone grease and it works like a charm.
How do I get the 45RPM/spindle off so I can clean under the flywheel?
I have powered the unit up on a variac and the AM radio/amp works on both channels with no hum (the rest of it is disassembled), so I am very encouraged.
I intend to change out the electrolytics for reliability. The brown(orange?) electrolytics I know fail with age. Are there any other parts that should be changed so I don't have to take it apart again? I am after reliability. What is the advice of experience??
