HelloI'm new to turntables, and bought a Beogram 3000 type 5901 kind of cheap (ca 80USD).The first time I pluged it in my stereo, it didn't give much sound, I could hear the music from the needle, but that's it.I talked to some locals who are pioneers in turntables who said I needed an amplifier/RIAA. i got one external RIAA, but the sound is the same. It's pluged in right, and power supply is conected.
Could it be the pickup that is busted? Is there a standalone pickup? It seems the pickup is the whole arm arangement.Could it be wires that is off?
The needle seems OK, since it plays the music when you listen to it close.Sorry if my questions are very newbie, I am interested in learning more about this. Thanks for all serious answers!-Ole
Hi - I'm having the same model. Fortunately, it works.Did you plug in on a phono socket on your stereo? Anyhow - you should here a massive difference with and w/o RIAA amplifier.Cheers, Urs.
it is correct that the BG3000 needs a RIAA! but if no signal gets through to the RIAA, it cannot amplify anything.
With the "old" Beograms it often happens that you pull the DIN plug and tear off the inside of the cable.
I would look here first now.

Ollis: Is there a standalone pickup? It seems the pickup is the whole arm arangement. NO The Beogram 3000 had an MMC 4-pickup for optimal sound and minimal record wear. The MMC x (x = 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5) is exchangeable, simply pull it off towards the front. Could it be wires that is off? YES The needle seems OK, since t plays the music when you listen to it close. Yes

Don't pull the tonearm.Pull only the pickup cartridge while holding the tonearm.
