Hey

Just got a Beosound 4 from 2007.

The soft plastic is sticky .

I have asked some that say it can not be "cleaned" but need new paint , but just want to ask here also.

Have anyyone tried to repair the plastic on BS 4 ?

Thanks

Anders

You can wipe it all clean of dust and dirt and spray it with satin black (or matt black) automotive paint - but it's nothing like original. It will just seal in the sticky and create a new, non-sticky surface.

I recommend this :

Here's someone's fix that I've heard about previously.  'Haven't tried it so I can't comment on its effectiveness.  If you try it, pls let us know if it worked (I have a BS 4 with the same problem).

Apologies - I assumed you'd be stripping it down to do any refurb work...

In which case, I have no suggestions apart from a new casing fitted by an approved B&O Service Center.

Other methods may work, but I've never found any (not to say there aren't any!_

Those "soft-touch" surfaces are one of the worst inventions in recent time Super Angry -like using "foam-rings" in speaker units instead of rubber... Wink

But the decomposition of the surface seems to be dependent on the environment in which it has been stored (humidity etc.).

I have bought two (secondhand) Beocenter 2 systems. On one of them, the socket-box was fine -on the other it was sticky.

I spray painted the surfaces with matte black paint. But offcourse you'll have to take it apart - or cover the parts that shall not be painted, with plastic/tape.

hi

this surface is poorly thought out decision of many manufacturers who think it lasts more than 10 years.

If the unit is in the sun, it will not last for 5 years :(

as thay suggest..it's best if you stip it total...so you have only plastic parts..

1. only clean with iysopropanol .

2..spray first with car paint prymer 5x ..sandpaper it to nice to a beautiful flat finish.

3.spray  black matt paint. ..do it from 50cm ,,,5x thin. so you get nice finished surface :)

i do that with BS4 or BL3 or Beosound 2 socket unit

Hi all

Thank you very much.

I have been offered a New orginal B&O rear cover / chassis for 73 euro.

I dont know, I can also try to paint as you all describes. Instead of normal mat black what about 'rubber plastic spray' ? plasti dip https://www.caradisiac.com/Plasti-Dip-un-produit-vraiment-bluffant-videos-76696.htm

Thinks that it will maybe get a bit of the orginal feeling without getting sticky ?

Sounds like a good option if you can fit it easily enough.

Hi again

Just wanted to ask how diffucult you would say it is to take the BS 4 appart so I can clean and paint the rearcover and the frontcover ?

1 to 5 where 5 is very diffucult ? ( for someone that usually dont do somethink like this )

I did found the PDF for BS 4 service manual that show how to take it appart

:-)

Thanks

Anders

It's 2-3 out of 5.
