Use Beolink IR eye to control non B&O stuff?

In my kitchen I have an Essence controlled through IR eye. Here is my (theoretical) question.

Suppose I would replace the Essence with a non-B&O streamer such as a Bluesound at a certain moment in time. Would it be possible to continue using the IR Eye? It would require some DIY to convert the electric pulses into IR signals.

Anybody has a suggestion how to do this?

As I said earlier, it is at this moment just a theoretical ‘thought experiment’ on a rainy Saturday. Nevertheless it would be interesting to know....

It is possible, yes. Using an Arduino, one could decode the IR commands coming from the B&O IR eye, translate them, and output them to the Bluesound. However, this is really nothing a person unexperienced with electronics and programming can accomplish easily.

Is your Essence a 1st oder 2nd gen?

 

Isn’t the BlueSound mostly managed by the app?

You could, if you are not sure, what you want/need, start with connecting the output (fixed) of the BlueSound to the line-in of the Essence.

This way you can keep the setup as is and listen to the sources of the BlueSound.....controlling the volume through the Essence, ir-eye, B&O remote.

As I said, it is more of a ‘thought experiment’ for now.

Let me explain a bit more.

My current setup in the kitchen is a Essence mk 2 feeding into as Passive, driving my speakers. The Essence is hidden away in a cupboard and controlled via an IR Eye.

Our main use case is very simple. In the morning we push the button on the IR Eye to switch on the Essence playing TuneIn. In the evening we push the IR Eye again to switch off. Occasionally we adjust the volume. That’s all. No switching to other sources, no Beo remote involved.

Now to the ‘thought experiment’. Suppose that at a certain moment I want to switch the Essence for a non B&O device. At that moment it would be highly convenient if I could continue to use the IR Eye in the same way as today.

So use it to switch on the device in the morning, adjust volume, and switch off the device in the evening.

That require a way to do the following:

- power the IR Eye (with 5 V)

- translate the electric pulses when pushing the buttons on the IR Eye into infrared signals that are understood by the non-B&O device

Some suggestions were already given: Lintronic or Arduino. As I am not very knowledgable with these setups, I am interested to learn how this could be realised.

Sorry - would the wuality of the TuneIn stream not be exactly the same with BlueSound?

So, why this ‘thought experiment’......other than for the sake of a ‘thought experiment’?

 

On a side note - did you set the Essence up yourself? If yes, which cables did you use from the Essence to the Passive?

I don’t feel I have to explain the background of my thought experiment any further. I have already given sufficient background earlier in this thread. The point is not whether or not I would have better sound quality. My only question is how I could reuse the B&O IR Eye in a non B&O setup. Believe me, there are several use cases for this. Hence my question.

As to your question, my dealer provided me with the right PL cable to connect the Essence to a Passive. A standard PL will not work.
