I'd love to mod my Beosound 3000 for balanced output so I can place it 20-25mtrs from my Preamp. I understand the MCL interface moves audio as a balanced signal. Can I simply make a cable adapter 'MCL jack -> 2x XLR' Would an adapter need some kind of logic to enable the mcl output.

I'd also like to add an Spdif / Aes Ebu output which seems straightforward enough given the CDPro2 transport in my BS3000 has an ebu out on it's servo / dac board.

Any advice on this much appreciated.

Hi sumilux,

Welcome to Beoworld!

The Beosound already has balanced outputs via Masterlink so you could run a Masterlink cable to the pre-amp position and place a Beolink Active box there to pick up the signal without any modification needed inside the Beosound.  This will also give you local remote control of the Beosound at the pre-amp position.

If you need any cables for your system, please click on my sponsor link at the foot of the page to get in touch directly and I will be happy to help.

Kind regards, Steve.

Thanks for your reply Steve. A beolink active box does indeed seem the best solution given these change hands for relatively little these days and it will add the option to remotely control the cd player.

But for the sake of knowledge is it possible to make a cable with an MCL plug to two balanced connectors. Will a simple cable like this work as is, ie does the mcl connector on the source have a live balanced audio signal at all times or is this switched on only by connecting an MCL capable device.

Thanks,

Hi sumilux,

Sorry, I don't think a Masterlink to balanced audio cable would work (MCL is Master Control Link, a different B&O system).  This is because the Masterlink connection requires a data handshake between the master and slave products, which you won't get if you try to take an audio output from the master product without a slave product connected.

Kind regards, Steve.
