Hi, I'm hoping someone can guide me in the right direction of diagnosing my issue...

When a tape is inserted, it will fast forward and rewind no problem, however when i press play, the red play light comes on, there's a click (I assume something trying to trigger the tape heads) and then the light goes off and the tape doesn't play (as the tape heads didn't activate). Is this sensor problem or a spring or belt issue?

There is a spring steel piece that locates around the cassette edge when the head carriage moves forward.Sometimes this get's bent downwards, and it jam's against the cassette. You can see if this is happening if you watch the carriage as you press play.If it does jam, simply bend the spring upwards carefully and try again.

Otherwise, unless any work has been done on the Beocenter, you will certainly need to replace the belts by now.

Hi Nick, I've ended up taking it out - I cant see anything stopping it coming forward and the belts look remarkably in good condition - the tape heads simply don't seem to be activating - thoughts?

I've worked it out - the arm hanging off the Play solenoid wasn't engaging in the top drive cog -  its now clicked in place (and hopefully will stay there) :)
