Very nice set indeed!

Welcome to the Beolab 5000 Owner’s Club 😊

Just add a nice Beogram 4000, a Beocord 2400, a pair of Beovox 5000 + Cubes, a center speaker, a Stereo Width adapter and you’re all set 😋 (for the full experience).

A final touch would be a Beogram CDX, which I see you don’t have—yet.

Thanks @Dillen I read it. I should have my set in home after New Year and I take a photo what is inside. Visually BeoLab front panel looks worst than Beomaster but I found one more Beolab and mayby I will buy it to Big Smile I dont affraid about wooden work, I trained much on my Beovox.

Refurbished front panels are available from Classis Audio in Struer, and I can supply new slider windows.

I love the cassette Beocord 5000 (I’ve got two) but I was referring to the period open-reel Beocord 2400!

Frede Kristensen (Classic audio here on forum) is master in Beosystem 5000, he has a lot of info on his site:

http://beolab.dk/teknik/bm-typer.pdf

http://beolab.dk/teknik/qty.pdf

I send my beolab 5000 to him for restoration (superior satisfaction), you will finde here in forum a lot about him and his work.

It sounds awesome... and the first question, I set the volume levels on Beolab inputs. The tuner input is at a minimum and the switch is at LOW. However, the tuner sounds very loud compared to the AUX and Phono inputs (I know that the TUNER adjusts in the opposite direction than PHONO). Is it normal ?? or I do something wrong ??

Loud means that I listening radio normaly on LEVEL 2, over 6 I think that is not loud but over-steering.

You can't tell it like that, because serial numbers are given across the product line.
15445 apparently is a Beomaster 5000,
15446 could also be a Beomaster 5000 but it could just as well be a Beomaster 1000, a TV or a tape recorder or something else.

- But I suppose that only puts your Beomaster closer to the production start.

I have it, In Beomaster is 6 stage output level. Now is ok.

I pluged Beogram 5000 with Shibata MMC1 to My Beolab. Sounds good but not looks good. I can take Beogram 3000 ( 5228, 5231 ) with SP12 or Beogram 1800 with SP10 ( 5213 ). It looks better with Beolab but does it sound good?

There are variety of decks that go well with the set up. For style, though not completely the right period, a Beogram 4000 has the same devil may care attitude to economics and dedication to engineering. A very good sounding deck with very good vibration resistance. The two decks designed for the job though are the Beogram 3000 types 5210 and 5211. I have owned both and the 5210 is the pinnacle. It is a Thorens TD124 MkII with a B&O ST/L arm and SP9 cartridge. Or you can go the whole hog and get the ST/P arm ( 12") and in my case a bespoke SP cartridge.

Another ST/P conversion by Frede Kristensen, this time with the deck finished in blue. (picture by Peter McEvedy)

These decks seem to have a far more extended and rich bass and are also wonderfully engineered. The blue colour on this one was applied by Frede and there are others in black or red in the hands of collectors.

The 5211 is not as well known but sounds good but was a UK and Netherlands model, I believe for marketing reasons.

Thanks Peter. I know about Beogram 3000 (Thorens TD 124) and maybe next X-mas :)

I ask about Beogram 3000 (5228, 5231, 5241) or 1800 because I can have it allmost for free but I don't know does it sound good with SP12

It is not bad - I don't think the platter is great - the BG1800 has the advantage there. I had one with an SP12 but it never became a favourite. The BG4000 is probably the best audio match with the better suspension but these days they are pricey - and very complicated to fix!

I know about a price and now I want something cheap. I can have this Beogram 1800:

44

and maybe it is good choice.

I opened Beomaster and Beolab.

Beomaster looks like straight from BeO factory, everything clean without rust, with paper scheme like new. I can not belive that has over 50 years.

I think that I will only replace capacitors and clean all potentiometers.

Beolab looks little worst:

and someone was here:

One RCA37740 and one RCA38647 transistors were replaced by modern equivalent.

Yesterday, before I open it, I put rosewood wooden putty on all scratches.

Today I use sand paper and steel wool and I grinded it.

I'm ready to put few layer of rosewood oil.

I finished:

it's the same colour like my Beovox M70.

Tomorrow I will apply bee wax and polish to get a uniform and velvety surface.

Because I almost finished my Beovox 5702 and I have few meters from Beolab to the speakers, I m.ade new speaker wires. In Beolab I have only 2 pin DIN slots and I decided to change it with low invasion.

Because inside Beolab, wires from switch Speaker 1, Speaker 2 are very, very thin I soldering wires to capacitors out.

Now I have fully functional original DIN ports and one independent Banana terminal.

And it looks not bad

All changes can be removed without Beolab damage and it will be looks like original.

Yes, I know, strange things come to mind during quarantine... but I expect more powerful sound because originally full power goes through wires like from headphones.

Good work! No drilling, reversible job.

Your speaker cables are really uselessly overkill. Why the hose pipes? Confused

I use ordinary cable with good DIN plugs, perfectly fine.

Please look at the minuscule PCB tracks and wires inside the Beolab, not to mention the power transistor junctions, with hair-thin connections, and you’ll see why those cables are just placebo.

Also think of the thin copper wire used in speaker units themselves Wink
