I have been looking at this CD storage system, which is presently on the market here in the UK. I wonder if anyone has either seen one or has one and could it be linked up to my B & O system 5500 using din plugs.

Any other help would be much appreciated.

I don't know the answer but this is the list of connections on it which may help others help you,

Stoobie

Connections

JB7 is simple to connect - you just need these

  • 24V DC - from the AC adaptor
  • Loudspeakers

Extra connections - can be useful but not necessary

  • Headphone output
  • Line out
  • Aux in - tuner, turntable, ipod etc you can record from this input so you could use it to transfer from vinyl to mp3

You can run the line out to the tape input of the Beomaster 5500.

I use a Brennan unit but use its own speakers rather than connecting to my B&O systems. As Peter says, the lineout to tape could be an option.

The Brennan speakers are surprisingly good, but lacking bass somewhat in comparison with say S45's.

I don't know whether Brennan have done a software update, but I find it rather frustrating that I can only search by song title, and not by performer or composer even though that information will come up in the display when a song is playing. I can usually remember a performer, but not always the precise song title!

The CDs are transferred at very high quality, but there is an overnight default digital compression to free-up disc space unless you set the unit not to compress the transfer from the CD.

I have to confess that I am still more likely to take a CD from the shelf and play it on the BC2 than I am to look for it on the Brennan!

Peter.

Thanks for that. As a follow-up I presently have my PURE dab linked thru this system. Is it possible to have 2 different items eg: the Dab and the Brennan running thru the Tape input, using a splitter, obviously I will only have one of them running at a time.

Graham.

Thanks for this info, sounds quite interesting.

Thought you might like to follow this link given me by Brennan direct.

It might help you with your problems.

Thanks David,

I'll experiment with the 'Album Search' function.

As far as your previous enquiry re connecting two sources to the single tape input, it is something that I wouldn't do unless I could find a suitable switching box into which the separate unit outputs could be connected. It's just as easy to to use a DIN to phono pair connection from the tape socket and leave the phonos at the side of your Beomaster,  separately plugging in phono outputs from each of your devices when required.

Having downloaded the free Linn high quality recordings recommended by Puncher in the run-up to Christmas, I've made another discovery about the JB7.

Whilst it will copy from a CD in an uncompressed format or compress to 320/192/128k bits/sec, it cannot read higher quality FLAC or ALAC files!

Edit

MP3 files on an SD card connected to the USB connection are fine.
