Hi all,

I have inherited a Beocentre 7000 that has an MMC5 cartridge, but I'm assuming the needle is damaged because on testing it is very distorted.

I was wondering if I can replace this cartridge with a MMC20 that I have seen on ebay or is it better to send my cartridge overseas (I live in Australia) to be repaired.

I see that my MMC5 cartridge has 4 pins on the back that plugs into the tone arm, but from looking at pictures of an MMC20 cartridge it doesn't seem to have the same 4 pin arrangement, what cartridges suit my tone arm.

Sorry, for so many questions. I really want to revive this wonderful machine, I remember it well when my father proudly brought it home many years ago :-)

thanks for any help,

Wayne

Hi Wayne,

If your BC7000 works with MMC5, then cartridges in the range MMC1 (best) to MMC5 (basic) are the ones that would fit. (The MMC20CL is from the previous generation of B&O cartridges.)

I believe that Soundsmith can re-engineer your MMC5 to be the equivalent of any cartridge in that range.

hello Wayne,

for your record player you can only take one cartridge from the series mmc1-5 as a replacement!

The systems can be repaired, there are a few addresses, for example:

Sound system in England SMMC1-5 or

Tonabnehmerservice in Germany offer repairs.

Here in the forum there are some posts that deal with the topic, take a "reading hour" ;-))

thanks for your replies, I'll keep diving into a reading session of this forum about repairing the MMC5. But it's good to know that MMC1 - 5 is the range of cartridges I need to be looking into.

cheers,

Wayne
