This was working OK a year or so ago and it still starts, detects the record and sets down correctly but the carriage does not move with the arm and it returns to stop within maybe 30 seconds.

I have measured the resistance between P3-7 and P3-4 (IL2) and get 1000 ohms which is consistent with a dead IL2 bulb (or a failure in the wiring to the bulb).

Has anybody attempted replacing the bulb and are there any instructions available that will help with dismantling everything without breaking various plastic bits?

Where can I get a replacement bulb? Has anyone tried replacing with an LED?

Thanks Peter

I agree, it sounds like a burned lamp.
Replacing is a fiddly job, but possible.
I have the correct lamp in stock. PM or email me.
Don't use a LED.

Thanks Martin, PM sent.

Is it possible to remove the carriage from the guides to get better access? I can see the wires run through the side of the cavity containing the bulb and LDR then disappear under the carriage. There is a small screw on the back of the carriage but I have not tried removing it yet!

I was a bit concerned about pulling out the carriage guide but it all went OK and found the lamp leads were broken. I managed to get the small PCB out and replaced the bulb with a white LED (from an old garden solar lamp) which I painted the back and top with white acrylic to direct the light to the lens..I inserted a 3.3K resistor into the circuit at the fixed end of the flexi-cable so that I could try different values if required but it worked first time.
