Hi

My Beomaster 4000 went bang a while back - I think someone had tried to switch it off but not done it properly and when I actually did it, it made a loud noise and hasn't worked since!  This was a while back so the details are sketchy, but now that I've cleared some space again I want to put it back into commission.

At the time I found that one of the anti-surge fuses had blown so I replaced but no joy.

Anything simple I should try?

Cheers

PS While we're at it, any way to reduce the transformer 'hum' whilst on standby??

SOrry I completely miss-read this as Beogram lol anyway it does sound like you have lost an output stage or similar... How are you with reading circuit diagrams and component level servicing?

Errrr - not competent at all!  I was hoping that I could replace a blown fuse or similar inside!

If I start messing about with circuits and the like I'll just cause more problems!

Beomaster 4000 does not have a standby function.
Did the bang come from the speakers (blown output stage, power supply etc.) or
from the physical Beomaster (blown capacitor, power switch etc.) ?

From the physical Beomaster.  Definitely not the speakers.

Thanks

You're right.  I meant when the unit is ON but nothing is playing.

Cheers

The humming is from the transformer itself. Only cure so far is to find a replacement with no hum from a donor.
And, to be honest, the other issue does not sound like something I would recommend to someone with next to
no electronic skills or experience. In fact, the transformer replacement could also fall into this category.

That's what I thought!  I'll get it repaired by a professional as I have now cleared some space to put it and the Beogram 4000 into action again.

Thanks for the advice and I'm glad I stayed away from opening it up!
