Hi Dudley,

I just got mail from Lee. He's asking for correcting details on spent nights at the hotel if they are wrong.

Looking forward to see you all in Struer

Thanks for the tip ... I checked and I had received mine 22 hours ago.

I am STILL playing with routes, durations and hotel bookings ... yesterday the FS said "I thought we were going to Italy" ... so now MORE route calculations and I might have to bypass some WWII sites !

Why are you all going to Struer ?

It's a B & O museum ?

Everything is happening in China now, right ?

Does someone have the exact details on when you will be having the museum visit? I will gladly drive there and meet some of you Smile

Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.

There was a small "lottery" at the old forum with a trip to the factory as a prize. Only the Beosound 8 and Beolit 12 is made in China, much of it is made in the czech republic, but the Struer/Holstebro factories are still making a lot (Beolab 5, all aluminum parts, R&D)

Furthermore, Struer Museum has a quite extensive collection of B&O.

Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.

Is the museum open to anyone visiting Struer?

Beosound 8, Beotime, Beocom 4, Beo 5, Lutron Rania, MacBook 15" (Mid 2015), iPad Pro, iPhone 6S, B&O Play H3, Beolit 12, Form 2, A8 Headphones, B&O Play A1, B&O Essence

Struer Museum with the B&O display is open to anyone visiting Struer - and well worth seeing.  Check the following link:

http://www.struermuseum.dk/en-gb/home.aspx

I think the factory trips are 'by appointment'.

There's always been a lot of ridiculous rumors about B&O...Years ago people were saying "It's all just Philips in a nice wrapping"...No - thumbs down
And now it's "all made in China"...Erm..
Don't listen to all that crap....

They are going to visit the B&O Headquarter and Factory called "the farm". As I remember back in 2007 when I was there this is a very special trip. B&O will show things to Beoworld members that ordinary people are not allowed to see. You can say they roll out the red carpet for them. It is  kind of a museum, but with the factory next door. You get to know some important people at B&O who are responsible for the products. For me the most impressing person was Geoff Martin, sound designer, who is responsible for nearly every audio setup at B&O, especially car audio.

This trip is worth every penny and you will remember the visit for a long time !

There are only two or three pieces of the B&O stuff which are made in China. Most of them are still produced in Denmark or Slovakia as I remember correctly.

Regards

Martin

Sorry guys, I was trying to be funny there ! I failed.

Visiting the museum even without the factory tour seems great.

From where I live it's a 4.000 km (return) car trip, but I plan to do it.

Do we need a Chinese visa in Struer ? Ok, ok, I stop...

Nice to see that you're interested in WWII sites too Ed.

I'm on the traces of my grandfather who served as a soldier (cook & butcher) in WWII. He has been to many war sites in Europe (Netherlands, Belgium, France) and Russia and the Ukraine. He came back from war healthy and I had great times with him for many years. I miss him very much.

We am slightly older than you :-) so it was our fathers & uncles who saw service - my dad was an engineer in the merchant navy, but as I get sea sick I am glad I did not follow in his 'foot steps' !

Hoever military history has always been a bit of a hobby, and you might notice on the map there is a stop off at Arnhem, the site of the battle captured in the movie (and book) "A Bridge Too Far"

I have been to the bridge of Arnhem myself some years ago, but you see very little from what happend there nearly 70 years ago.

And what will you do on the stop off "E" near Paderborn ?

Maybe going to pay a visit to a guy called iPoditiv on a certain forum.

Elephant, in Paderborn you may have a look to a small chapel inside the cathedral where more than 100 people died by a air mine being at the wrong place at the wrong time in March 1945.

Half way between Paderborn and Bielefeld you find the detention camp of Stukenbrok where in the 40ies about 65,000 people died (mostly russian civilians being forced to work in Germany).

But there are less sad places like the Kaiserpfalz in Paderborn or the Kunsthalle in Bielefeld or ...

I can show you around a little before I take my bicycle to Struer ...

Thanks for your interest.

I am leaving on May 14th in the afternoon heading north to Struer (only 600 km in a week). From Struer I plan a little beeline over Købnhavn back to Bielefeld (June 1st). You are welcome to my special holiday trip, also to a stopover in BI before or after.

@ipoditv @beoice

We will be leaving AU on Monday 14th May and arriving in Paris on 15th to spend a week with friends, and then travel from Paris by some route or another to arrive in Struer on Monday 21st May - I believe the Lottery Tour starts on Tuesday 22nd through to 23rd but I think we probably need an updated agenda from Lee !

So I think we will miss the chance to meet beoice :-( but there is the possibility that ipoitv's paths will cross with ours at Struer :-)

Hi Lars,

Guess when we get the schedules we can see who gets where, when to see if we can sort out any car sharing etc, etc.

I may need to be going back to the airport early, so may need to hire my own one.

Cheers

I may attend at the museum, can drive people from Billund airport, Karup Airport and Esbjerg Seaport (the ferry from Harwich, UK to Esbjerg). I have space for three in the nifty Volvo Smile

Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.

I think we had that idea of meeting "other" B&O-friends somewhere after the party already.

We are driving all the way from home to Struer on Monday (will need to rise VERY early that day which normally is an absolute no-go for me Embarrassed) and will stay there 'til Sunday morning when we're heading home.

So from Wed evening (is this the "official" end?) we're open to almost everything...

Sounds a great idea - so are we - we can stay another day easily ... could even include a visit to that cave where they filmed the Tonmeister video :-)

Perhaps some of the sheep could recommend some green field explorations around Struer ???
