Hello Everyone!

I'm currently on holiday, but just to clear things up...

A few weeks ago, i sent out emails to the group asking for confirmation of hotel requirements as people were adding/changing/deleting arrival and departure times.  I needed to let the Struer Grand Hotel know as it's obviously getting a little close now, and they have a business to run etc..

After 2-3 weeks, i'd only received replies from around half the people coming - so i assumed it was simply a spam filter issue as it was sent multiple recipients.

I then sent individual emails to the people who hadn't replied, asking for hotel confirmations - to which everyone to their credit replied within 24 hrs except Mr J. Hoejbjerg (trucker) - so if you know him personally, could you ask him to check his emails.. (although judging by the username he could be at the wheel!).

A few people have dropped out at the last minute, but these spaces have now been filled with people from the reserve list as agreed at the beginning - so all is good.

Once Mr Hoejbjerg has got back to me, i will have final numbers and names to pass to Bang & Olufsen - who will in turn give me an itinerary, which i will email to everyone as soon as i have it.

So - that's where we are now.  It's going to be a great trip i'm sure - and i'm very much looking forward to it !!

Hey - so now you are coming too ?

That's really great !!!! Big Smile

I was visiting Denmark on Sunday Smile using my ATV to browse YouTube and see Struer:

  • Found a very dull clip of some manager at the hotel we will be staying Smile
  • A visit to the Museum Big Smile
  • A pianist playing in the B&O hall
  • And some guy flying a radio controlled quadcopter over the roof tops of Struer
  • And lots of young people's clips of thrash metal bands in what must be the local high school's hall
  • Oh a country & western band in an outdoor fair !

Seems like we will have lots to do Laughing

And we will arrive on Monday and leave Thursday ... are you flying in ?

And maybe we can start by visiting the Monster Cave en route ... if it's open on Mondays ... or leave it for departure day Smile

Yes - and very happy to meet other forum members! You're coming all the way from AUS? Are you staying longer in europe?

To be clear, Struer is in the middle of nowhere! It is very green and relaxing - but there is nothing to do! I was hoping to visit the museum that wasn't there last time, but it is only open while we will be visiting the factory. Unless the museum is part of our visit.

Have we got a planning for these 2 days?

I really want to meet the lot of you, but I don't know if you are visiting the museum. I will come to Struer if we can meet up at the museum; It's a long drive if I can't have some fun up there!

People are welcome to visit me in Esbjerg, nevertheless and have a piece of Danish bread with a cup of coffee and a good B&O-talk!

Maybe I can arrange a small meeting with people coming in from the ferry (Harwich-Esbjerg) or driving from the south (the main road over Ribe from the German border).

Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.

we will be in EU for 4 to 6 weeks depending on which gives out first ... the money or our bodies Laughing

I believe the museum was part of the original agenda

I have not seen any agenda update

we are training from Paris to probably Hamburg (or maybe Hannover depending upon a work colleague's family & availability) and then switching to car for Denmark, so we would be happy to meet you en route on the Monday (I guess) ... we are Planning to go from Struer to see some of Denmark (Arhus, Copenhagen) and then return to Hannover before going to Berlin and points south.

That sounds very nice, I will be sending my address to those who want to visit me.

Maybe I can make lunch (or whatever time of the day it is) for those who are interested; with Danish rye-bread with Danish rolled sausage, Danish Liver-plate (Leverpåstej) and maybe some Danish pickled herring Laughing

Ouch, and we are planning to stay from Monday till Sunday Unsure

Arriving monday afternoon (depending on the 1100km car travel...) so hopefully there for the evening.

Museum was part of our planning; maybe during the rest of the week or probably part of the tour - haven't an agenda either yet.

One day could be sort of shopping, another for driving through the surroundings.

I'll just wait till we're there and can do some planning from there.

1h is enough to do all the shops in Struer! Including the B&O shop!

Seriously, that's why they moved their Marketing department to Copenhagen, as no young marketing people wanted to live in the middle of the sheep in Struer!

I really enjoyed the 2 days I spent there as the weather was nice, and it is really relaxing, but it is really remote. If I were you, I'd plan driving to another place, like Copenhagen, or Hamburg.

As I am also living in the middle of a rural area that wouldn't be much of a bore Stick out tongue

We will circle around a greater radius then. And as I might have a date with a former workmate on Sunday somewhere 40km from Struer we'll have to stay there anyway Wink

We'll pass Hamburg for another meeting on monday then. That's holiday here in Germany btw; is this also true in Denmark?

Ed, You might pass my place in the Netherlands?

Looking for someone who could pickup a record player for my friend Frede Kristensen to bring to Struer or Veno?

Must be in the weekend since I'm not in the country due to a business trip.

I might have to bypass some WWII sites !

You could even visit some while you're in Struer... For example:

The photos at http://www.krigsturist.dk/folder_stp-grp/stp-grp_50_flgh-rom_dk.htm are of a site less than 30 minutes drive (near Lemvig, if you're looking).  More info and photos (also in English and German) at http://www.lemvig.com/historie.htm

The museum at Hantsholm is a bit of a drive north from here, but worth it, apparently (it's on our list for this summer)

http://www.museumscenterhanstholm.dk/

If you're not interested in driving, you can pass this place

http://www.ww2museums.com/article/3532/German-War-Graves-Struer.htm

on the walk from the Grand Hotel in Struer up to B&O HQ.

Cheers

that cave where they filmed the Tonmeister video

It's http://www.monsted-kalkgruber.dk/, in case you're serious about that. (it's about a 40 minute drive from Struer, give or take).

Bring a coat - it's cold in there, regardless of the outside temperature. A flashlight is also a good idea. If you're planning on taking photos, bring a tripod (see http://www.flickr.com/photos/geoffgmartin/3500779791/in/set-72157617536328651 as an example of the colors in the walls, for example)

If you go early in the morning before the place gets busy, you'll see the bats. The later in the day you arrive, the less likely you are to see them.

There's another similar cave in the neighboring town, http://www.daugbjerg-kalkgruber.dk/

Although it's big and you can just wander around at will, a big chunk of the caves are not open to visitors because they're used for aging cheese. There is one place in the publicly accessible part where you'll come across a metal gate where you can look down into the shelves of cheese. Although there are signs showing the way, they're unnecessary.... just follow your nose - it's not difficult to find. :-)

Cheers

Hi, sorry for not replying earlier to the PM and your address ... my plans are still flexible.

We could be passing your area, but it would be late on Friday afternoon ... would you be back from the business trip by then ?

"Fur" is a wonderful little island, recommended to me by Frede Kristensen - so I went with Peter on my last visit. Incredibly peaceful, great if you like stomping around looking for fossils - and a beautiful tranquil beach. Oh, and i nearly forgot - it's got a brewery, which also does a lovely lunch !! You should also try to visit Fanø - just outside of Esbjerg (where I live).

Beaches with fine sand and large dunes, a good brewery, the only Danish links-golfcourse and idyllic 18th century buildings. You may find amber at the beach, too Smile

I know that Lee will share his information when he has it, but am I the only person of the group to whom it is a bit unclear when the program will start and end? Or are you guys spending a whole week in Struer? I was actually planning two nights only Big Smile

I am planning to go by train (which btw is B&O branded in the 1stclass section) but tickets are going fast now, so I would like / need to make the bookings rather soonish. Don't want to stand for 4 hours :o)

So far I am aiming for arrival end of afternoon on Monday 21st. What about Wednesday?

Hi Ferdinand,

I'm planning to fly into "Legoland Airport" (ie. Billund) and get the bus to the railway station at Vejle where the main line runs to Struer.  Back in my younger days I used to just get on and off trains across Europe, buying my tickets when I got to the station.  From what you are saying, I guess I should buy train tickets in advance in Denmark?

I don't want to stand for 4 hours either! Crying  I would be grateful for your advice, as I've not taken the train across Denmark before......

Thanks, Steve.

I can confirm that I will be joining the Struer trip and will be in Struer from Monday morning and leaving Thursday morning.

I look forward to meeting everyone who is joining this exciting opportunity to visit the farm and in my view its never been a better time to do so.

I know that Lee still has not received from B&O the detailed agenda, but I know he will make it available to you all as soon as he gets it.

There is a Danish website called www.rejseplanen.dk where it is possible to coordinate all departures so you don't have to wait around. It will make a departure plan for any public transport, you can buy tickets at all the stations Smile
