Hi

I recently got my hands on the second Beomaster 5500 receiver. So now I have two. My plan was to use Beo4 remote to control the receiver for normal daily operations. For anything fancier, I use MCP5500.

The "new" Beomaster has a TV attached to the AUX input and a turntable to the PHONO input. Additionally, a set of speakers is plugged to the SPEAKER 1 output.

The new Beomaster has some issues when receiving commands from Beo4. Firstly, the POWER OFF button (red dot) does not work properly on the newest Beomaster. Worth noting that it works if the command is issued from the MCP. When I connect the speakers to SPEAKER 2 output, then the POWER OFF command is correctly processed and the receiver enters STDBY mode.

And the thing that is bothering me the most: When button TV is pressed on Beo4 the old Beomaster was powered on and selected AUX as input. However, the new Beomaster does nothing when TV button is pressed on Beo4. The light blinks, but that's it. The configuration on Beo4 did not change so the IR code should be the same. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Is there some way of configuring the receiver?

The red dot button or standby function shouldn't have anything to do with the speakers. I suspect your Beo4 just has a flakey off button (or see below).

"TV" is a video command. By default, an audio unit (such as your Beomaster) doesn't react to video commands. You will need to program the Beomaster to option 2, then it will react to both audio & video commands:

Hi Mika

Thanks for pointing me into this direction. I tried the option programming and I think I am missing something out here, because it doesn't seem to work. Should I do this with the receiver powered on or in stdby mode? What kind of feedback should I expect?

EDIT because of double post

I tried multiple variations of what is described in the tech docs but nothing seems to do the trick. Seems like Beomaster is still in factory preset (Option 1).

Is there a way to reset the Beomaster? Any other tricks?

Mika, thanks again for your help in guiding me. I did some research on the option programming and Beomaster. I found a lot of info on programming 6500 and 7000 series. I only found little detail about the 5500.

I tried to do the option programming on my Beomaster 5500 and I wasn't able to solve my problem. I followed the procedure with Beo4 and with Beolink 1000. I'm not getting the expected result. I read in one of the similar topics here that the Beomaster should show the number of the selected option to confirm the action.

While trying to set OPTION 2 with Beolink 1000, the Beomaster just turns on RADIO and starts the station stored on 2nd preset.

I read somewhere on this forum that 5500 does not support option programming. But this is conflicted with the information that it supporting MCL enables it to support option programming.

So, I practically graduated from this OPTION programming and Beomaster 5500. Here's some information in case someone else stumbles upon the same issue.

I tested the same principle with my "old" Beomaster 5500 and the option programming worked. I got the feedback on the main display confirming that the option was correctly set.

I checked the serial number on the Beomaster that was not responding to option programming and the serial number was: 3371006 (type 2329).

The Beomaster that was responding to the option programming has serial number 04665679 (type 2331). This Beomaster also has a "BEOLINK" sticker next to the serial number. Additionally, there is also a sticker "S/W 2.3".

The verdict. The type 2329 Beomaster 5500 does not support option programming because of older software version in its microcomputer.

Now the question, what are the odds that someone/somewhere is still able to upgrade the software? I'd say the chances are pretty slim.

I'll still keep the Beomaster for my secondary music system where it won't be integrated with my TV and IPTV.
