Hi there,

Long time audiophile, first time poster, virgin B&O guy.

I obtained a Beogram 2400 today. Does not have a cartridge. Have done a few hours reading up on these and posts are all over the map about quality/sound/etc.

I need a cartridge and stylus. This is a hobby for me so costs are a concern. I mostly listen to 60's and 70's rock and vintage quality recordings.

So help me out and suggest which cartridge I should get and from whom please?

Thanks in advance, I appreciate hard won experience and expertise.

peace.

Hi there ( no name  ?)

If you look up the 2400 on Beoworld , you will find that the MMC 20 EN was fitted as standard.

(It was also fitted to the 4002 ,even though the MMC 20 CL was available.)

There were four cartridge & stylus in the range: MMC 20S (the cheapest ), MMC 20EN, MMC 20E,and MMC 20 CL.

I have compared the 20S to the 20EN, and the 20 EN is worth the extra .( the 20 EN is much better

performed when it comes to the "high end".) The 20CL was the top of the range , but it sells for an "eye watering"amount of money.

As well as Beoworld, I would suggest that you also refer to another B&O guide in "Beocentral".which has a good data base.

Hope this helps

regards

Noel.

Thanks Noel,

Great information! I am seeking an inexpensive cartridge to see if my 2400 is worth restoring. it appears to run and cycle properly but without a cartridge I don't really know if it works or is worth fixing if it doesn't.

Thanks again,

Peter

Hi Peter,

Have you made any progress in your quest for a cartridge?

From what I see on E- Bay, I think you'll find it hard to find an"in-expensive" one.(Of course ,it all depends on what you consider as expensive).

I saw MMC20S priced at ( Australian Dollars) from $211, to $250 and $468.

I saw MMC 20EN priced at $230 and $480, and MMC20CL from $400, $650,right through to $1150.

regards

Noel
