Hello, I've inherited my father's RX turntable, which is in mostly good condition after I replaced the cartridge with a SoundSmith MMC3 cartridge. However, this behavior has started:

  1. I place a record on the platter. I press the 33 button, LP spins,
  2. Tonearm hovers over the usual drop point
  3. Tonearm does not drop, but returns past the usual spot
  4. Tonearm drops stylus to the deck of turntable (noooooooooooo!!!)

I can work around this by pressing 33, then Pause, and then placing it manually, then hitting the Pause button again. The tone arm then drops appropriately on the record. And when that LP side is over, the tonearm returns to the appropriate spot and rests on the tone arm holder (I'm sure that is not the technical term).

But, I'd much rather have this behavior fixed. Anyone know what's going on here?

Thanks!

Pete
