Hi, another BC6-26 question.
I am trying to connect a PS2 with component cables (5 connectors) to the BC6-26 (HD ready), to play vintage games.
The PS2 works with the composite cable plugged in CAMERA, but not when switching modus in PS2 menu from VGA to YPbPr and switching to the component cable on AV3 on BC6. Settings on BC6 seem to be correct, hd input via YPbPr. Sound is working, but image is black.
I found this thread describing the same issue: https://archivedarchivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/36650.aspx, but there is no solution there...
Is the component connection on BV6 not compatible with PS2/3?
I know this is old tech, but your help is much appreciated!
Beosound 5 Encore + Beosystem 5500 + S45.2; BV7-40 MKV + BL7.1 + BL14.4+ AppleTV4; various link rooms with MCL2 A or MCL2 A/V + RL60.2 / CX100 / CX50 & Cona / IWS2000; BG4000; Beosystem 1200 + BV1600.
Have you tried toggling the Progressive Scan options in the PS2's 'Screen Setup' menu?
Thanks for your reply Guy, I will try looking for that setting tonight. Is that different from this menu?
MJBeo: Is that different from this menu?
Is that different from this menu?
It's in the DVD setup menu, accessed by starting playback of a DVD, press select and then chose the 'briefcase' icon.
I am not really sure if this will work, as it may only apply to DVD playback, but it is worth a try!
EDIT: Page 30 of the manual here: https://www.playstation.com/manual/pdf/SCPH-79002CB_79003CB.pdf
Thank you, however I cannot see the option, because I think it is only available if component cable is connected and then I see no image. I have in Screen setup only TV type, DNR, Outline sharpening and Display.
Tonight I tried the PS2 on my hitachi projector, worked well, and also on my Beovision 7-32 MK3 with exactly the same result as on the BC6-26: black screen. Could the cable be faulty, even if it works on the projector and is new (but non-original)? Really frustrating!
Online I found a hint that the green lead from the ypbpr cable should give a black and white image on the screen when plugged into the composite input (yellow). And it does! But that does not solve it. Does the input from the beovisions accept 480p / 480i? I would think that the game console that was current when these televisions were sold could be connected. (The PS3 was introduced a year later in 2007).
Appreciate the help!
Hmmm. Are you 100% sure that the TV is HD ready?
This thread (posts by Vienna) stressed that requirement: https://archivedarchivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/37031.aspx
I am, because the serial numbers and type numbers are correct (I checked the b&o site for this too). Also, apple TV 4th generation works fine as does macbook with netflix in the browser. That would not work without hdcp.

My BV6 is not HD ready and does not have component. However, when I had it connected directly to the DVI, Apple TV4 worked fine until I started playback of content that included hdcp. i.e, I could view Netflix browser, Amazon Prime etc but the screen went black when I tried to play the movies.
How were you connecting your Apple TV and/or MacBook? If you were using an audio extractor then you may find that this was extracting the hdcp also.
Perhaps it would be worth finding another component source to try with the BV6.

I am connected via HDMI from MacbookPro to DVI on BV6-26, one cable, without any converters, indeed to test the HDCP. Playback works well. On BV7-32 I have a converter to extract the audio but that does not strip HDCP. (I know because I added a splitter to remove HDCP to be able to play netflix via the VGA output on the projector because that gave an "protected content" error, see this thread https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/30749.aspx, solved by Tim84)

I have used my TELE2 set top box with component on the BV7-32 before in 1080i resolution so I know those work. Have not tried that on the BC6. Perhaps I can find a cheap BRplayer to test the input on BC6.
Another option could be that the cable I bought is not of enough quality to be recognised by the BV's? I will try to borrow a PS3 that can be used with the same cable.
Yes probably worth trying a new cable. If you try a PS3 it will be interesting to try experimenting with the video output resolutions - the manual say that it will output 1080p / 1080i / 720p / 480p / 480i.
EDIT: I was just looking at the PS2 manual, and noticed this note on Page 11:
You cannot connect the console to a TV with component video inputs that are exclusively for HDTV use (Y Pb Pr). Refer to the instructions supplied with your TV for details.
I am not sure what that means, and whether it relates to your problem!
Thank you for your perseverance Guy, I will report back once I borrow the PS3 from a colleague, hopefully next week. Would also be good for other members here who are fan of vintage gaming to figure this out!
It has been a while, but I have not figured this out yet. I tried a PS3 with a component cable but that also gave no picture. I then received an XBOX 360 from a friend but that also did not give any image with the component connection, even thought I could set the resolution to the default of the Beocenter! I also tried other resolutions but to no avail. So I gave up and concluded that the component is not usable for consoles. Perhaps the input resolution is not suitable or there is some other issue. I connected the XBOX via dvi/hdmi and sold the PS2. End of story.
Thanks for the update. It's a shame that it didn't work, but hopefully this thread will provide useful info for others with a similar problem in the future.
Once again thanks for your input Guy!
This thread is a couple of months old now but I have been trying to achieve something very similar without luck either. I have bought a component cable for my PlayStation 2 to connect with my Beovision 7-40 MK2 with a built in HD-Tuner and newest software.
First of all I am sure there is nothing wrong with the console and the cable as I’ve tried to connect it to a new LG television we have in the house and there it worked perfectly.
So they way I’ve connected it to the Beovision was by connecting the three component pins in their respective sockets on the Beovision and connected the stereo rca cable to the AV4 input in the Beovision. I have assigned the PC button to AV4 and set the HDTV input to YPbPr. Both the console and Beovision have been totally disconnected from the mains and still with no luck. The audio is coming through perfectly but there is not activity whatsoever on the screen. I simply don’t understand what’s going wrong, I read one of the answers in the thread saying that the PlayStation 2 won’t work with an HDTV only input, but from what I can read in the manual of the Beovision MK2 is that the component input is not an hdtv only input as is does not state a maximum or minimum resolution like it does with the DVI-I input.
This is a real head scratcher, has anyone tried with the PlayStation 3 to see if that works with the component input on a similar model as yours or mine?
kind regards Eskil
Interesting to hear that someone else has the same problem, and possibly re-assuring for MJBeo that he's not alone!
As I posted before, I still think it's something to do with that statement in the PS2 manual:
Perhaps it's worth raising a query on a PS2 forum, rather than here?
Hi Eskil, a shame you are facing the same problem. As I said I have tried many tricks, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360. They all work with component on my Hitachi projector, none of them worked with the BC6-26 or the BV7-32. Therefor I do not think this is a problem of PS2 only.
A few years ago I got my TV settop box working with component cables in 1080i resolution, so I know it can work.
I have actually sold the BC6-26 (even though I loved it), and connected the Xbox 360 via a HDMI switch to the BV7-32. If in the future I want to upgrade to a different console that will be easy.
I tried to address your comment in my first post concerning the HDTV and YPbPr but I couldn’t make sense of it, because in the Beonanual it does not state that is a HDTV only input, although you can of course only activate it as an HDTV source under connections settings in the beosettings. I have been to several PS2 forums but there are not a lot of options you can go through to adjust the signals, the only two things that you can do according to my findings is change from RGB to YPbPr or insert a DVD to force a YPbPr signal, but none of those were successful.
