Hi,

Are there any users of Lintronic's TT455-RT238 HW v.4 out there? I recently purchased one second hand and would like to correspond with you.

Yes, I am. Only a novice I'm afraid, so no tricky questions please!

Just to be clear, there have been multiple hardware versions of the Lintronic device. The version is described on a sticker located at the bottom of the unit. The most common versions out there are HW v.5.x and 6.x. These versions are supported by Lintronic and the current software available.

I have an older HW v4. Do you have one of these older devices? If you do, I'd like to correspond with you. Thanks.

Does anyone have a copy of the software to use the v4 hardware (configurator).

I've asked Michael Lindgaard but in his usual arrogant way has refused. Great customer service! - specially as I have also bought a v6 version in the last year or so.... I certainly won't buy anything from him again - and anyhow, building a similar device with a Raspberry Pi and LIRC is relatively easy. Just annoying I have to dredge around to either find the software (which he certainly has) or build a replacement. I recall that the box costs about £200 - you'd expect some help considering the price of the device even though it was a while ago.

I think  he needs education in customer service and perhaps better understand the community that he is hawking his devices to.

As as you can guess, I'm a little annoyed with his bad attitude.

Hi there, I have the HW5 and the HW6. Unfortunately the HW4 was obsoleted quite some time ago, and as others have said Michael has stopped supporting it. To be fair lintronic is a small company and he has supported previous HW versions for quite a while after he issues updates. His customer support is fantastic and will often add features to his software if you contact him with requests (he added some beoremote one features for me for example). He also offers substantial discounts for existing users who are updating from obsolete HW versions to the newer versions. That said I agree it is a very poor show that he does not keep the last working version of the configurator tool available for users of older HW versions. I'm afraid you'll have to find someone with a working software version for HW4 (assuming the latest configurator won't work with HW4 - from memory I don't think it does). You may need to run that software on an older version of Windows as well.

sorry that doesn't help much

Luke

To be fair, you are aware, that in the beginning of 2012 Michael wrote:

"We have carefully taken a long time to introduce the new Configurator and keep everybody informed accordingly.

Customers not giving any feedback got a 6 weeks period to make use of their license expiring 14th of February 2011 - and to download/save a personal copy of the old Configurator.

Unfortunately many users either had turned off the NewsLetter, or did not read our emails. But as we are constantly moving forward, we are no longer able to support the old Configurator.

The new Configurator still supports the TT455-RT-238 Hardware 5, which served us for 6 years before it was obsoleted in December 2010."

So, HW5 (!) was realeased in 2004, so HW4 is at least 12 yrs. old.

I think you cannot expect support 12 yrs. after withdrawl....
Give Microsoft a call asking for support for Windows XP to have an idea how bigger companies handle support of withdrawn products.

;-))

Ralf

PS: I am sorry for you buying an old products, but sometimes you need to check first if you can still use this product.... Maybe the seller has some backup software?

I had a look into my Lintronic sw "collection", but the oldest sw is from 2009, and it is already HW5, sorry.

So, no help from me, I`m afraid.

BTW, I agree with Ralf.

And Michaels support is fantastic.

To be fair, I think it's a reasonable expectation for the vendor to stop support of an obsoleted product once it's been announced, especially a v4 unit. Michael did provide ample notice of this change when it occurred. It would have been nice if he had a link for downloading the old Configurator version with caveats about old Microsoft libraries required for support. But I think his election not to do this is not unreasonable for the previous point cited.

One consideration which would be nice to think about is what happens if or when all of these products are no longer supported. Is the design of the software such that it will still function properly if the online dependencies no longer exist for some reason? Having a standalone configuration is nice.

Michael's hardware is rock solid and very stable. Kudos to Lintronic for developing something that works really well.

Hi Stefan, if you still have the software for HW5 I am interested. I am still looking for this version.

@kallasr, i didn't buy an old product. This is one I bought full price at the time - and have bought a v6 version since.

I  wasn't asking for support either - just the archived software. Any business worth its salt would have archives - specially if (as you say) we were 'warned' about the impending removal of support for the hardware. I reall objected to his way of communication to me

Either way, I suspect he has his supporters here - but that makes no difference to me in that I will never support his company by buying any more products , specially now as you can practically build a similar device much cheaply.

That is one example of what I call support...

Sorry for you, that you didn't keep of copy of the software you had before.
Maybe someone on this forum will be able to provide to you.

I've recently tried to use a couple of old Version 4 devices which have been lying unused for 7 or 8 years.

They always worked fine before and I simply want to reconfigure them for a couple of new devices I now own.

I contacted Lintronic, apparently there is new software but it doesnt work with the old units.

Apparently they no longer supply and support copies of the old software - this is a shame as they are aligned to the B&O brand which relies heavily on long term support of older systems.

Anyhow - I found an old copy of the config software but it doesnt seem to run on a wondows 7 pc.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Regards

Alan
