Hi everyone, a few days ago, suddenly one of my beloved BL5 bursted in loud noises, mostly like statics. As soon as I could’ve I turned the system off, and after a while on again. The statics where still there and, then I heard a loud bang, it sounded like a gun! Then, looking carefully at the speaker I also notice that the dome of the tweeter was damaged, in fact seemingly somebody pushed the dome in!! It was, and still is, a very upsetting sight!
At moment it only emits static noises, proportionally to the volume setting, and no audio cables plugged in.
I wonder if It is the tweeter’s damage that cause a chain reaction that caused all the damage that we have yet to assess. I started the repair process with B&o, but frankly I can see it already, it will be a very long and super slow process, and possibly more expensive than worth it (especially if I could find a gently used single speaker on the used market). To me it doesn’t seem like it’s just a tweeter that needs replacement. and I wonder if I’m getting my hopes too high that they’ll actually be able to repair It. I heard they dont necessarily have all the parts. ” Any thoughts are welcomed. Thank you.

The static noises are mostly caused by one of the amplifiers inside. The dealer is only capable of ordering a complete chassis (all the electronics inside) and make a swap.

The costs will always be lower than finding another spare BL5.

Isn’t it possible to replace the bad caps? Seems very unnecessary to replace all the internals for one faulty component especially if it’s repairable. The environment need better service than complete swaps. And it’s probably like a 5 dollar component maximum.

It's a common misunderstanding that every problem is caps related. At this scenario it definitely isn't.
Changing a complete chassis is the most reliable and quickest solution the dealer can offer you. It can be done at the dealer's or at home, where faultfinding takes more time (especially with static noises which often also occur after some time) and isn't recommendable.

The customers gets a chassis which is checked and tested in DK before it's placed.
