Having received my Beoworld Xmas draw win of Roger Moore's immaculate white BG6500 (thanks Lee!) I want to set it up to run initially through my BC9500.  This will save me digging out my BC2300 plus a suitable amp and speakers from various boxes around the house!

I realise that the BG6500 cannot be connected to the PHONO socket because both the BG and the BC's audio stage have RIAA, hence I am planning to connect to the BC9500's TAPE 2 socket as a temporary setup.

My question is this:  Do I have to remove the BG6500's datalink pins (6 and 7) to avoid a conflict?  Otherwise, when I press play on the Beogram, won't it tell the BC9500 to switch to the PHONO input?

One thing that I am confused by is the circuit diagram for the input stage of BC9500: PHONO pin 6 is connected in parallel with TAPE 2 pin 7 to provide datalink, with nothing connected to TAPE 2 pin 6.  However, for the AUX input pin 6 provides datalink.

Well here I am answering my own question Big Smile

I loosened the transit screws, adjusted the platter height, fitted my SMMC4 and connected the BG6500 to my BC9500's TAPE 2 socket.  As expected the BeoCenter switched to phono when I pressed play on the BeoGram, and subsequently the BeoGram paused each time I then selected TAPE 2 on the BeoCenter.  I have since removed the datalink pins (6 and 7) and it plays well, although obviously without remote control.

Here's a picture:

So clearly it doesn't match, so do I now begin the long search for a white BM6500, or simply connect to my BC2300 in another room?

Is it possible to remove the RIAA for using the BG with BC9500 PHONO socket?

Hi Stefan - thanks for the response.

Yes I've considered that, but given the Beogram's history (and condition) I really think that I should leave it original!  Also, given that it doesn't 'match' from a visual perspective (wife doesn't approve!) I think that I will eventually be setting it up elsewhere in the house.

I had thought about making an adaptor using one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/OMNITRONIC-10355042-LH-042-Line-Phono-Converter/dp/B002J4L9BY

.. and replacing the phono in/outs sockets with 7-pin DINs so that I could internally connect the datalink.  However, the two unnecessary stages (RIAA and cancellation of same) would no doubt reduce sound quality.

I think I will leave the 'TAPE 2' setup for now and have a think about a Beogram setup in another room.  I only have the one LP, a copy of 'Brothers in Arms' purchased especially for 'testing' purposes! Smile

Yes, I`m afraid too. Did you try the BC2300 solution? Should also work via remote control - and I wouldn`t place the BG side by side to your Beocenter(s)

The BC2300 is a project for another day because it's just too difficult to dig out of the cupboard at the moment!

I may also try a 'minimalist' solution using an MCL2AV and MCL2P in 'stand-alone' mode, together with some passive speakers. I think I would be able to connect the BeoGram to the MCL2AV's CD input socket and have full IR control.  I remember trying this years ago with a Beocord and it worked well, even providing full 2-way IR control with both BL5000 and an MCP.

But having moved house five times in the last nine years all this equipment is buried deep in badly labelled packing boxes, mixed in with about 30 Beocom telephones and I forget how many other remotes, cables and B&O adaptors!

Funny, I thought about a MCL2AV solution too. If you already have one, you can put it LINK mode and connect Powerlink from both the BC9500 and the MCL to an oneremote.dk Powerlink switch So you can even use your BL4000s for the whole system. I`m using a powerlink switch from oneremote for my BC9500, which is a local system in a link room. Second PL input is a Beolink active in LINK mode from the main system - connected are two wonderful BL5000s....

Great minds think alike!  And the MCL2AV really is a useful bit of kit.  I also used one once with an MCL2P as a stand-alone amp for my desktop computer.  I have an MCL2AV 15v power supply somewhere too, which would help.

Great idea about the powerlink switch - probably the best way to add the Beogram to my current system and have remote control.  I will add it to my list of potential options for when time (and money) allow!

Powerlink switch is 1095.- DKK inkl. moms.

You don`t need another amp (MCL2P) and no additional speakers....

You could find a suiting Beogram 9500 instead of the Beogram 6500 ;)

BeoPlay A9 Mk. II "Special Edition" - "Smoked Oak"

Beosound Stage "Contrast Collection" - Anthracite

Beoplay M5 - Black

Beomaster 7000 + Beocord 7000 + Beogram 7000 MMC1/2 + Beogram CD7000 + Beolink 7000 + Beolab 8000

Beocenter 9500 + Beolink 1000

AUX Expander "Custom Mod" (built-in Bluetooth streaming)

^ Thanks Stefan and Kasse!

My reluctance to spend money and/or make too many changes is that until I won the Beogram in the Xmas draw I didn't have any interest in vinyl!  However, it's such a fantastic BeoGram with such a great history that I feel that I need to look after it, and actually use it rather than store it away in boxes like much of my collection!

I'll come up with a plan in due course and let you know the outcome!

An advantage of lock-down is that you can get away with temporary setups like this on the dining room tableSmile

Just using the BC2300 to test the full (2-way!) remote functions of the BG6500.  And can anyone spot the wire coathanger doing an admirable job of providing FM radio reception?

And is the A2 hooked up to the BC2300, Guy?

I love the sound from mine.

Yes - just took the output from one of the Powerlink sockets and fed it into the A2's 3.5mm aux.  Works very well and far simpler than digging out passive amp and speakers for this 'temporary' setup!
