Hi all,
I have a functioning MCP 5000 (I can see the IR emitting with the phone camera at both ends of the remote) with new batteries.
I'm getting the no transmission message on the mcp when trying to communicate with my beomaster 5000. I am not seeing an IR light emitting from the BM when I press a button on the MCP.
I am assuming there is a problem with the IR emitter on the BM.
Any ideas where I should look for a cure?

Could be as simple as a dead IR-LED.Check for the high voltage at the frontpanel circuitboard and check if the sender circuit in the Beomaster gets a signal.

I'm fairly competent but before I start dismatelling, do you think this is a fairly easy repair?
Is there a diagram I can see to locate the defective part for replacement?
I suggest you get a copy of the servicemanual. It shows the complete circuit diagram.Easy or not depends on what the problem is.
Check supply voltage to the sender circuit first.Then put a scope to the sender circuit and see, if the circuit receives any data.
A couple of pictures of the offending (possibly) area. And pointers?

Obviously. Mearly seeing if there is any 'visual' fault present.
The Beomaster only sends to confirm commands. It doesn't send constantly.Does the Beomaster react to remote commands?
No, no response to remote commands
I'm getting about 27vdc at the first diode
Correction.
I'm getting the following DCreadings as I go down the line from the first diode
12.5, 11.7
11.7, 10.9
10.9, 10.0
This is without any signal being sent from the MCP
No change to these voltages when sending a signal.
If the Beomaster doesn't react, you should concentrate on the IR receiver rather than the transmitter.Does the Beomaster 5000 have an option setting for the remote control like the Beomaster 5500 etc, does? I don't remember...

Is there a way to test the ir receiver with out a scope pr is there a specific replacement I can get and just solder in place? Please point me to the rs components item and I'll just replace it if that's what's required
No, the IR receiver circuit is not just one component.You need to put a scope to the IRs receivers output to the CPU.That's pin 5 on 4IC2 (8051 CPU) or the collector pin of 9TR5, whatever is easiest to access.Expect to see bursts of data when IR commands are received.If no data is observed check the 34V supply to module 9 and the 14V derived from it, found across 9C5.
No scope so soildering on with my meter. I'm getting 14v on one side of 9c5 but nothing on the other side in standby mode. No 34v reading

Yes.Most problems with remotes cause them to send nothing at all.The question is, if the Beomaster CPU actually receives the transmitted data.
So no scope, no fix?
Is there a way to read a voltage change on the ic?
I managed to get a spare BM5000 and although it works OK. I try the MCP and still no transmission. I have even tried using the spare board 9 in my main BM and still the same issue.
Just seems odd that both BMs have the same issue.
Also I only get the odd light up on the MCP, no all the bar graphs for volume and balance. I thought when I first got it through the post these were illuminating. I have put a new set of batteries in, and have read this can be an issue which sounds daft but I'll try anything at the moment.

Just to go back to "go",does the beomaster function when you use the key's inside the drop down front?
As Martin has stated,the remote control system is two-way.The Beomaster receives the commands,processes them,then send's data back to the MCP,so that the Beomaster status can be displayed there
It's common for the ir receiver diode in the Beomaster to become noisy with age,but as you have been able to replace the entire ir receiver module,that seems to rule that out.It's possible of course that you have two faulty modules!!
You are "dancing in the dark" really without a 'scope,but it is a expensive instrument,that unless you are embarking on a lot of techie work,would be an extravagance to buy?
Double check with your 'phone camera that the "acknowledge"signal is not being transmitted from the Beomaster.It will only be a brief blink just after you press a command button on the MCP.Make sure the Beomaster and MCP can see each other of course!
The MCP itself,is the most likely culprit as it is vulnerable to damage from dropping and shaking,being portable.
Have you explored inside the MCP yet?The two indentical ir transmitter/receiver modules are sited at each end ot the front edge.On close inspection,you might spot some dry joints around the crucial ir diodes there.

Hi,
Drop down panel function is spot on.
Phone camera shows a double blink at each edge of the MCP but not been able to see a return signal from the BM.
I have ordered a set to re-cap the BM as Martin has said this is a good thing to do anyway and can sort it out. So win win on that and worth doing it anyway.
I did inspect and checked voltages and continuity on the MCP and all looks good including getting a voltage spike on the ir when pressing a button so, again, all seems ok.
